BZB, Why s ds taking an entrace exam to Rossmoyne, its a givernment school?

I may be wrong here Hally, but I think if you're living out of area for a certain school, it can become very competitive and probably relies on scholastic, etc. ability - therefore an entrance exam of some description . . .

The exam is for Rossmoyne's Honour Maths program, Hally. That's one of their 3 specialist programs which allow the school to accept kids from outside their school zone. The other two are classical music and volleyball.

Rossmoyne has a Gifted and Talented (GATE) program as well. The exam for GATE was completed in May. Honour Maths is the most difficult to get in to, as the kids have to be very, very good in maths. These kids get the best teachers, and extended maths curriculum. So it's very competitive and tough to get in. My fingers and toes are all crossed for DS 2.

your correct gf if you're not in the zone you have to try and find ways to get in by way of scholarship or music or gifted programs its very frustrating especially if you only have one to choose from::)

I have the same issue bzb the high school in our zone is not our preferred choice so our DS11 sat the academic extension exam last week if he doesn't get in he's going to continue with his trumpet and do music at the other out of boundaries school its all too hard couldn't get ours into the private school for high school either apparently you have to be on the waiting list before you are born ::)

Good luck to your DS, Suzanne. Are you in SOR or NOR?

My eldest takes trumpet too :)

Glad to hear he's not stressing about it, suzanne!  Also glad to hear the trumpet tones are not as troublesome now . . . ;D ;D ;D

My DS came home the other day with the news a friend of his was selling his drum kit and that he was giving some thought to buying it . . . . I informed him that this was no way to tell his mother that he was also thinking of moving to the Northern Territory!!   ;D ;D ;D  He's going OS soon, so the drums may sit on the back burner for a while . . . :-))
