Busy day today - lunch at Goolwa with some friends, then back home for a bbq with the neighbours.  Taking advantage of the delicious cool weather before the heat sets in again tomorrow when we will be back to all doors & windows shut, blinds down and ceiling fans on.  :(

Well, thankyou. Don't know about being overly caring? I love being a nurse - can't imagine doing anything else.
I've only nursed in one capacity or another since I was 15 yrs old.  :)

That is very inspiring. I don't know that there will ever be enough passionate nurses. I wish nurses, teachers and policeman were valued more both in remuneratIon and recognition.

Surprise party was stressful. All steps were taken to try to make as safe as possible including written invites, no facebook, list at door with hosts checking off names, ID to be shown for those over 18 with alcohol, register party with WA Police lock all side gate access to back yard and so on.

We did not serve any alcohol as many attendees were under age.

However, I dont think  there is such thing as an alcohol free party, they "preload" they sneak it in or they leave  outside under bushes etc and find excuses to go out.   Once all invited guests were in and out the back and my DD had returned for the surprise bit we then said no one was to come and go.  Several people turned up, friends of friends who were not on the list and they were politely asked to leave and they did, but they then hang around outside possibly drinking.

we then had quite a few jump over locked gates, in fact two very high gates, again they were asked to leave and they did. The group inside were manageable with one minor incident but the group outside were not so happy, my DH was out there and decided we needed a visit from police. I called them and they arrived with one marked and two unmarked cars including the dogs.  I was embarrassed  to have the police outside my house but what a wonderful job those men and women do, they came and "moved on" the growing group of teens in the street then said just to ring again if we needed another visit. it does speed up the process if you register your party prior to the night as it is then on their radar.

later on we were able to enjoy the night with the remaining special friends all enjoying themselves, respecting the rules and quietly helping to clear up and leave at the agreed finish time.

It was a lot of stress for a few hours of enjoyment for my DD and  her friends, don't think I will be doing it again!!!!

It sounds as if you had all bases covered GHM and potential uninvited troublemakers were quickly able to be sorted out by the police. It is a worry though after seeing scenes on TV where things have got out of control.  You can breathe a sigh of relive now it is over but I understand you not wanting to go down that track again.

We had Katie & Richard here for lunch and he set up my new computer.  So far so good but he is only a call away if I need more advice.  So lucky to have these 2 lovely people in my life.

Wow GHM sounds like you had a few scary moments there, but glad it was under control and you had a good night.

We had Katie & Richard here for lunch and he set up my new computer.  So far so good but he is only a call away if I need more advice.  So lucky to have these 2 lovely people in my life.

Hope things are going well with the new laptop Judy.  What a lovely thing to say.  We feel lucky to live so close to the forum's superhero!  We both love visiting you and Geoff and Richard loves your cooking  ;D  I came away with another selection of Judy's lovely "hamper" type goodies.

Robyn lovely cutlery holders.
GHM  what a stressful party for you. Especially when you try to do everything right.
Hally  :-* :-*

I slept all afternoon. I'd had a really bad half ever attack yesterday and it wiped me out.
