What exactly is an English cucumber
« on: May 20, 2009, 03:07:56 am »
What exactly is an English cucumber compared to the varieties we get here?  I printed out some salad recipes from the English TMX site, one being for fennel and cucumber salad. Googling hasn't really given me the answer except that it apparently doesn't have as many seeds as other varieties. What would you use as an alternative - the lebanese one maybe? No hurry for an answer, summer is a long way off :D :D

i was going to guess just the regular garden variety but if it has less seeds i would probably go for a lebanese one

i think it would be a 'burpless' cucumber if that makes sense.  The ones that you always find wrapped in plastic, to me they are what we used to buy in England.  The other type of cucumber you get here in Aus is a lot thicker and definitely more and bigger seeds.  The burpless arent seedless as such, just smaller seeds and a smoother skin
