Funny you should say that as my eldest DD who is 35 grew into coeliac's about 3 years ago and never had a problem before then.
Hopefully Sophie will grow out of her dairy allergy and yes maybe the immune system matures in early childhood. It's scary when they have to be rushed to hospital when the swelling starts. Very fortunate to have epi pens nowadays. I honestly don't remember anyone having food allergies when I was growing up. They seem to be much more prevalent these days.

Yep, I'm the same, never knew anybody that had allergies when I was growing up either. Seems like a modern day disease.
Even when my children were small and I was on canteen duty, we only had one child to look out for that was diabetic.

That's exactly right Michele. I don't understand why this is so prevalent in our western culture. I think additives and preservatives must have something to do with it and also spraying of crops and who knows what goes into animals food. I can't think of any other reason. ???

I definitely think it is all the additives in food. That's the beauty of TMX, you know exactly what's in your food. We probably didn't have so many allergies in our day because we just ate meat, fruit and veg and our mums baked all our cakes, biscuits and extras.

Very true almost everything was home made and I am sure we all ate very similar dishes very plain wholesome meals.

Exactly MF. We need to go back to basics - meat, seafood (that was caught on a fun weekend fishing), fruit and veg, with homemade extras.  :D

I'm happy this morning as we had an early morning phone call to say BIL is stable but still in ICU. A big improvement.

Thanks girls. He has a lot of medical problems but this time it is a case of male stubbornness and crankiness and utter stupidity. He has septicaemia (?) among other things and has been getting sicker and sicker all week but wouldn't go to the doctor. He is normally in a lot of pain but just accepted his worsening condition.  Another few hours and I believe he would have used up his 9 lives.
My darling DH had very angry words with him and he ended up being taken to hospital. I think it is the first time they have really argued since they were kids.
Thankfully all is well at the moment.

Cookie, I'm glad your BIL listened and took your DH's advice, sometimes these males need a stern talking to.  :D
