What book are you reading?

As I am on holiday I thought this would be a good thread to start.

What book are you readng?

I have just read a real holiday book that's pure fiction. A page turner and of its genre. Very light.

The Lazarus  Vault by Tom Harper.

Paperback, bought for 20pence at our local village hall that runs a charity book stall. A good many of our books are bought that way, read and then taken back to be sold on again.

Next book was  a Christmas  present from DS non fiction
The Secret Life of Bletchley Park by Sincalir Mackay.

I don't have a kindle, still prefer real books. Maybe one day when not travelling by car.

What are you reading now and what do you reccommend?

I'm just reading sudoku tips at the moment but everyone at work is reading Shades of Grey.

I heard our next door neighbours discussing that book, they were all,sitting in their garden and I was getting in the washing. Couldn't help but hear. Haven't read it though.

I found 50 shades of grey a waste of time.  I'm flicking at the moment between rereading Angela Knights fantasy books (a bit fluffy but good for when I can't sleep) and rereading through my Georgette Heyer and Jean Plaidy books.  I've just given my daughter the first of the Queen Victoria series to read of Jean Plaidy.

I'm reading the 3rd book in the Outlander series called Voyager by Diana Gabaldon on my kindle.

I found 50 shades of grey a waste of time.  I'm flicking at the moment between rereading Angela Knights fantasy books (a bit fluffy but good for when I can't sleep) and rereading through my Georgette Heyer and Jean Plaidy books.  I've just given my daughter the first of the Queen Victoria series to read of Jean Plaidy.

I loved Jean Plaidy as a teenager also Caroline Keen books as a child which led me to thrillers and courtroom dramas.
Shades was probably  written by a couple of nerds who winkled stuff from the Internet and who  wanted to makes quick buck . They have no doubt made a fortune and were clever to have written three of them. I could not be bothered. I have read a lot of books which were crap but I draw the line on that. Lots of people  enjoyed them though so to each his own.

Has anyone read books by Honey Brown? I have yet to read one.  I went to school with her and her books are supposed to be really good.

Read Shades of Grey a month or so ago - total crap (sorry, but I believe that to be a quite appropriate word for that trilogy), quite explicit (bondage, dominant, submissive, etc.) and, generally, a 'nothing' sort of book.  I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.  I got sick of all the "oh my's", "laters" ... and I always cringe now whenever I read the word smirk!

Just read the first in the Artemis Fowl books, but not sure if I will continue with the series as they are bit too 'young reader' for me.

My mum has got one of those kindle things and says she'd like to buy me one when she can afford to. But there's something I like about having a solid, paper and ink novel in my hand. Call me old-fashioned

Kate Morton - the Distant hours, not really getting me in and probably wouldn't recommend to anyone. 50 Shades of Grey is next on our book club list.
