Thanks all, it was a big hit, we had it at the end of the races with a welcome cup of tea.
There were only two slices left and we have them away as couldn't bring home on the train  :D

It lasted fine too and I'd made a cool box out of foil in a cardboard box and chilly packs as it was a sunny day and made from cream cheese.

Next time I'd put sliced strawbs on all 3 inside layers. The jam and frosting layer sort of disappeared.

I didn't use my usual non TMX sponge as I needed a strong sponge to cope with four layers and fresh strawbs.

It's so good when an idea works.

Apart from buying from a person who makes cakes, does anyone know where you can buy cheap cardboard cake boxes (in different sizes). And approx cost?

Thanks obbie ill have a look. I won't need a huge quantity as its just for when you need to take a dessert etc somewhere and don't want to worry about having to remember to bring the plastic container home ( such a hassle)

Don't I know it CP, still trying to get DH to remember my best tin from his new work place, trouble is he's only there occasionally. Hope he remembers before we move!  :D

I love that cake Karen and can't wait to show DH tomorrow - he has his own little tank corner in our lounge, he just loves them.
Was yours a surprise for your DH?
