Thanks guys. My DH birthday is coming up on Tuesday and I am thinking of making him a cake as well. I might tackle making a tractor cake. I will post a photo if it works out ok otherwise you will never see the finished product lol.

Love this cake, have made it again today. This time using dark brown sugar. Interested in the difference. Must ice it now so we can eat it :) :) :)

Just love this cake both ways with either raw sugar or brown sugar and the butter icing JD gave me was superb, I used it on both cakes. Each time I let  the cakes bake for just ,over 1 hour.

We have some in  the fridge at the moment.

It is nice warmed up served with vanilla  ice-cream.

Yes, it's lovely like that! When I make chocolate muffins, I make a chocolate ganache for the topping and those heated up and served with ice cream are superb!

I never thought of heating it and having with icecream. Yum Yum that sounds like a brilliant idea. (Now just to wait till the kids are asleep and sneak some)  :-))

So glad to see this recipe is still a hit!  :D

I use this to make muffins all the time.  lately I use the a premade GF flour mix to subsitute and it's a very nice cake still. Most people don't notice that it's GF at all.  8)

Doubled this recipe to make a pirate birthday cake for master 3.  TM wasn't really happy with the doubled mixture - next time only 1.5x  :o  I split the batch in 2 and made one batch vanilla & the other chocolate them marbled them together for the final product.

Thanks ladies - it was easier than it looks.  Got the design out of the Woman's Weekly Kids' Birthday Cakes book but I love this cake recipe so there was no competition on which batter I would use  :D

You guys are all so good with cakes and decorating. This is now on my I must perfect list.

I just seem to be so messy, I try to be neat and dainty but it just doesn't turn out out like that :(
