Cheats Dulce de Leche

Has anyone tried making dulce de leche this way?
I'm afraid of my pressure cooker, but my desire for this might help me overcome my fears.

I'm not scared of my pressure cooker at all but that looks dangerous.
I would be afraid that the can would exploded.
Let us know if you're brave enough to try it Amanda.

I'm willing to give this method a go. If I have a can in my pantry I will do it today, otherwise will have to wait until I do my shopping in a couple of days. Will report back once it's done.

I sometimes do it in a large pan of boiling water turned down to simmer and leave for 3 hours.
Great results

Yes Mum used to boil it too - how much easier we have it today. Is this so much better than the cans of Nestle Top 'n' Fill Caramel?

Have just turned it off, so according to the instructions just need to leave it until completely cool before opening. Will report back later this arvo. Hope it works as it was so easy and quick.

Knew we could count on you Julie. Mind you, I haven't got a pressure cooker so don't know why I am so interested

When I made condensed milk in the Thermothingy, I cooked it for way too long and ended up with this divine, sticky caramel that I just eat out of the container when I need a sugar fix!

A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

I cooked this for 15 mins and as you can see it's quite set, okay as this was just a trial. I've read I can add a little milk to loosen it up a bit. So I now know for my pc to only cook for 12 mins next time and see how that goes, can always reduce the time further.
Wouldn't hesitate to do this way again.

Thank you for that Julie, did you leave it covered by the water to get cold?
I am tempted to give this method a go next time I want to make it.

No not at all. After the pressure had reduced, I left it for a bit while I was busy doing other things, probably about 15 mins, then I removed the lid of the pc and lifted out the can with some tongs and just put it aside until the can was cool enough for me to touch. Pulled off the lid and spooned some out to taste
