It is really lovely chocolate Hally - and the best thing is when you buy something you get a free tasting  ;D

From where I work, if I have to walk to either the pharmacy, Rundle Mall, the Uni or Royal Adelaide Hospital, I have to walk past the Haighs store  8)

Cookie, sounds like you are having a wonderful time in Adelaide.  Are you going to try to fit in a visit to Beerenberg?  Although I suppose with a TMX you can make yourself jams just as nice as theirs.

Sure are Karen. I love their stuff, also going to Maggie Beers and  Angus Park. A few years ago when we were here I ended up taking so much stuff home. It's fun though.
We plan on heading up into the hills on Thursday and Friday. Then will do Maggie Beers when we are staying in Nuriootpa. Oops will be heading upwards to the hills on Saturday too!

Enjoy Angas Park then - it will most likely be the last time you can visit it.  There was something in the newspaper a few days ago about it being bought by a Chinese consortium who are going to close it down (non-profitable) and centralise all the dried fruit processing somewhere in Victoria.  A very sad day for a South Aussie icon  :(

I love Maggie Beer. Is her  restaurant still, open? I had a memorable meal there once cooked and delivered by Maggie herself.

Karen I think the tourist shop in Angaston will still operate, the factory part is moving to Victoria.  We were up in the Barossa 12 months ago and bought up at this shop - not long later we heard it had been sold so I don't know why it has taken so long to make the news.  Maggie's restaurant hasn't operated since 1993 Gretchen, when were you there?  She now has what is called a 'Farm Shop' and instead of set lunchtime meals she has what she calls 'picnic fare'.  Here is her menu - right up your alley I would think.

I love browsing her shop, usually buy the beetroot relish.  It was great to come home and make my own bread 'bark' (using Chookies savoury flatbread recipe) as that was $10 something for just a few pieces of 'bark'.  Chookies is virtually identical to what Maggie sells.  You have to be a foodie I think to appreciate being in her farm shop, not cheap in there but a wonderful experience.

Oh that is good that the tourist shop will stay open - although it is still a shame that the factory is moving to Victoria.

I love Maggie Beer's shop too.  My favourite is her burnt fig jam ..... never lasts long in this house.

Oh boy you had to say it didn't you  Judy. 1993. OMG!  That long ago?  It was longer ago than that  as I remember my friend and I went with her mother and son. Her mother is now  91 and her son  must be  30 something. Yikes. Seems like just a few years ago.

Yes that menu is right  up my alley. It would be hard to choose.

Cookie, sounds like you are having a lot of fun. Haighs sounds a wonderful place. People tell me Maggie Beer has a burnt fig icecream that is very nice, have not seen it over here though, so cannot say.
Have a great time.

What a gorgeous face she has, such a beautiful smile. She looks like a lady who is happy and wise. I would dearly love to sit in her kitchen with her.

While you're in the Barossa cookie you should get some Linke's garlic mettwurst. OMG I love that stuff - the foodland in Tanunda sells it. There's a really cute little farmers market in angaston on Saturdays (I think) if you're around then, all the locals go - it's next to Vintners restaurant.
My friend went out with Maggie Beer's daughter for a while there...
