What made you buy your Thermomix?

I actually got the coffee machine before the Thermomix came on the scene.....  but the coffee machine was in self-interest really because he always made such a mess with the previous machine.   This one produces fantastic coffee and no mess.   Perfect - just like the Thermomix really!

I bought mine because I was intrigued by a discussion on eGullet - a food forum on which I have been active since '04.  That led me to the UK forum and thence to the Canadian as well as the various online videos. 

I love appliances and gadgets - I have grain mills that range from a large, very old, hand-cranked, stone mill to my electric Nutrimill.

I have an extensive collection of appliances from the Art Deco era (20s and 30s) that are as decorative as they are useful.  The jewel of my toaster collection is the "Gazelle" toaster.  In my opinion one of the most beautiful appliances ever made.


I also dabbled in artistic pursuits during my life.  Mostly animal portraits and engraving in glass and crystal.  Part of the reason I like the TMX is that it has an artistic appeal to me. 
Here's one of my engravings on a glass panel, done prior to when I developed arthritis in my right hand.  No longer possible for me to do this type of activity.


And that, in a rather large nutshell, is what made me buy my "Tuffy" the TMX!

I second that statement.  Love the etching - that wouldn't happen to be of your dog by any chance?  I also love old toasters, still think they toast better than the modern ones of today even if you do have to stand by and watch them. Have you ever written a book about your life andiesenji - would make interesting reading.

Not one of my dogs.  I had great danes for a few years in the late '60s/early '70s - very little grooming. Then fell in love with basenjis and bred and showed them for 30 years.  Still own one but can no longer get around the ring and taking care of puppies is too much for me.

The maltese engraving is of a top winning dog and was one of five I did for a client - the other four went into a window, surrounded by stained glass - she paid for all five so I used this one for display.

I have not done any engraving since 2001.  The pastel paintings are recent practice pieces.  It's much easier on the hands.

You never cease to amaze me with your endless talents Andiesenji - love your work.  The pastel paintings are lovely too - so nice that you can still put those hands to good use with something less strenuous than the engraving work.  Take a bow, I applaud your talent.

Andiesenji - they are wonderful. In particular I love the pastel with the 2 dogs. Years ago I used to paint also, but haven't really done much for but 5 years or so. Hoping in the new year to shuffle some priorities and get back into it.

I have a chef friend who would just love your art deco collection.  We had an Art Deco exhibition here in Melbourne earlier in the year and as George says - they are decophiles and that was what brought them together.

Thanks for posting that link, Thermomixer, I have now drooled all over my keyboard.....

I have furniture too, purchased very cheap when MGM sold off their back lot stuff in 1969.  I wish I had been able to buy more but I did get the living room furniture from The Thin Man movies and a bunch of accessories.
