Be nice obbie. Your place or mine?  I could do lunch. Bring your cosies and we all get into the pool. It would be standing room only though! Be a great photo op.

Trouble is when it is cold down south it is the high season here and over the top prices. In the low season it may be unbareably hot and humid for some not to mention the rain.

I haven't looked on this thread for a 24hrs and look how much has happened. I think I would be in for Adelaide although I might be back to travelling for work next year. Sorry won't be putting up my hand to organise, CP it sounds like you did such an amazing job last year you could be chief and get some local help.

Gert, I can't believe you made that comment (regarding the alcohol) - wash you mouth out with soap!!

I have never been in that one Uni but I pass it on the way to Glenelg to see my DD, it's just under 30 minutes from my place.

What came to mind also was the place Cookie stayed at in the foothills which would then make easy access to places like Hahndorf and which is only 7 kms from the city.  Brownhill Creek Tourist park - this is the deluxe accommodation but there is cheaper.

I don't know if there is anything similar in the Barossa Valley.

Marina I would do everything in my power to be able to join the group and with the help of my care workers, Geoff's sister & my friend, it can hopefully be arranged.  Of course this was all in place for the last one but his massive seizure put paid to that, being in hospital is one thing but being on life support is another and of course then I was unable to leave him.  I would hope this wouldn't happen again and even if I couldn't stay overnight, I would hope to be able to join you all during the day.  30-40 women descending on our house would be a sight for sore eyes - Geoff would be a little overwhelmed but if it meant it was the only way to meet you all, then why not.  I would hope it wouldn't come to that but we are talking so far down the track that I couldn't possibly know how things will be on the homefront.    Of course I don't expect you to plan a retreat around me, just consider yourselves and I will somehow manage to be there the whole time or just pop in.  :-*

I did Wonder. Rinsed the soap away with a good Sav Blanc.

Well I'm happy to go along with anything ;D I'll help out in any way I can, but since I know absolutely nothing about SA it might be tricky. If there were a team of SA people willing to put their heads together it might not be as much of a task :)

Love the idea of everyone crowded in your pool Gert. That would a photo I think everyone would frame and hang on their wall ;D

I am sitting here looking out at the pool now thinking it might just take 50 if we all squeezed together . Those in the deep end would have to be held up. Hysterical it would be.  Hire a few chairs and we an all fit. In or out .

Gretchen my pool is as tiny as yours. But my decks are huge, something to think about. :) :) :)

Glad you wash your mouth with Sav Blanc..... :)

I'm sure there would be enough of us to check out any places under consideration, do pick ups from the airport etc.  We would just need some direction from the person who is prepared to take this suggested retreat on.

Right - my husband will probably kill me for this.   :o

I'm happy to start having a hunt around for some venues for this.
I'm thinking that we might not be able to get somewhere that will give us access to a kitchen , though.  If we are talking 30-50 people that would probably be a little unwieldy anyway.

There is a large conference centre in the Barossa, something similar down south in the McLaren Vale wine region, a large (but daggy) motel in Victor Harbor and another in the Adelaide Hills so the first thing we need to do is to settle on a region.  Of course we could just stay in the city - we have the national wine centre right in town so could probably organise a dinner & wine tastings there.

Then we need to decide what time of year (winter will be cheaper), how many nights & how many we will be.  I'm thinking buses are going to be the best mode of transport - to get us to the venue & then to move us around the area (taking us to Maggies farm, if we go to the Barossa , etc).

Any thoughts?

I'm totally in whenever ;D

Amanda, if there is anything I can do to help, just say the word.

Should we see who wants to come and then set a date, or set a date and then see who can make it?
