Steaming in the varoma sounds like a good idea. Maybe I will try microwaving next time.
would you boil in the basket of the TMX Cuilidh?

I hadn't thought of either of those options, CC and Michelle (I'm not a great lateral thinker, that's why many of my questions are a bit inane).  The varoma may be the way to go.  It will be interesting to see how they taste cooked that way.  It's drawing towards the end of my holidays now so it may be a while before I try that experiment, though, but thanks for the inspiration ladies.

Mich, I made these tonight and I ruined them :'( I'm sure they would have tasted lovely if I hadn't accidently emptied half the pepper into the mixture! I will be trying them again though, because I never let a recipe beat me ;D

I have frozen these, Amy, but I felt they were maybe just a wee bit tough when I tossed them into my sauce after thawing out.  The texture wasn't off-putting, though, and they tasted fine.

Its wonderful to read other people's ideas. Thanks Michele for converting the recipe. I've bought the books but I'm not good at converting. I think I'll try steaming in the Varoma. Will let you know how it goes.

Uni, this is a very moist/loose mixture. I had to use a mini scoop to shape them. But if you put them straight from scoop to pan it would probably work.

Amy I have frozen them and ate them as is defrosted with no sauce they tasted fine.
