No - cookie is right - i was thinking of glucose - checked it out    Sucrose is just as she had said it is glucose plus fructose

Poor Cookie, she must have though she was losing it   Hand out Thermomixer, let the teacher slap it (as they would have back in our day with a cane) Got one or two of those on the back of the legs when I was young.

Phew, I did think I was losing it for a minute. I have a bit of a science background and you'd got me really confused.  I didn't know if I was Arthur or Martha-but then I've realised I'm neither.

Another easy way is to hold down the ALT key (use your left hand) and don't let go of it.

Then on the keypad area on the right side of your keyboard, press 171 and then release the ALT key.  That will give you ½

To do ¼ you press ALT 172 and to do a ° you press ALT 248

You need to already have the NUM LOCK key turned on (usually a light appears above it to let you know it is activated)

Otherwise you can do the SUP thing...

Thanks - I use that with Word - but didn't realise it works here too - usually type recipes in Word and transfer them anyway.

This obviously only works if you have a keyboard with numbers in a block on the RH side.  My laptop doesn't so no go for me unfortunately.

Being the computer geek that I am, I had to fire up my laptop to see how it can be done.   

First make sure NumLock is on.  For me, I hold down the key that says FN and then press NumLock (release the FN key) and now that is turned on.

Then have a look at the J, K, L, U, I, O etc letters and you will see they have little numbers at the bottom edge of each key.  That's your numeric keypad equivalent.  So now you can hold down the ALT key and press 171 (release the ALT key) to get ½ etc.  FN and Numlock will turn NumLock off and put your J, K, L etc keys back to alpha characters.

½ ¼ yay, it worked but I am going to have to keep a copy of your posting by the side of my computer and search hard everytime for those keys . I was about to post to say I didn't have a NumLock key and then I found it.  Had never noticed the numbers in the corner of those letters either. Thanks for the computer lesson Daisygirl.

Wow. I have a laptop that I use when travelling but not for the internet. I actually am trying to store all my recipes on there too so that will be helpful. I'm trying to type them up so that I can make a lovely book for DD when she eventually builds her house.
That will be my new learning thing for today.

On the Mac Option - 0 (zero) or make sure the Character Pallette is available (under system preferences ➛ International) and double click or insert it from there (it's available from the top menu of the application - in Safari it's Edit ➱ Special Characters).

Thanks & welcome Zan - I can't speak Mac at all - have real troubles when I try to use Macs - because i am too old !
