Yes, you are defintiely out of the free tram zone for Brunettis.
The trams do not travel down the part of Lygon Street where Brunettis is located so a short walk will be on the cards ... although the walk from the tram stop to Brunettis would probably be shorter than the walk from the nearest available car parking space to Brunettis! If you are concerned about travelling on the tram and there are quite a few of you travelling together from the hotel, a taxi might be a good idea, although that would be more expensive than the tram.
As Lygon Street is very near the university there are quite a few trams that run parallel to Lygon Street. You should get any of the trams going up Swanston Street (very conveniently, the hotel is on Swanston Street) then get off at Stop no. 1 which is pretty well on the corner of Swanston and Faraday Streets (I think about 8 stops from the hotel). Walk down Faraday and when you get to Lygon Street turn left and it is a very short walk to Lygon Court Shopping Plaza / Cinema Nova – Chookie, am I right in thinking that Brunettis has now moved to Lygon Court, I think you know this area of Melbourne better than I do?
I refer to tram stop no. 1. All tram stop signs show the route number, location and unique tram stop number for that route – watch the stops as you travel along and you will catch on quickly to which stop you are at. Just to confuse matters totally, the stop after no. 1 is stop number 111 – but that is a whole different story.

Thanks Cookie and Marina. Marina, you are correct, Brunettis shifted to Lygon Street from around the corner. I have spoken to AA about the Yum Cha Cooking class.
I am now ready to post final info. Will put it where? Help Judy and Cookie!

Thanks Marina.
Chookie I'd just put it here. I think this is where most people look for Forumfest information.

Jen has paid and I haven't heard that she is not coming. Hope she is.
Kezza's friend is replacing Katie.
Yesterday I visited Brunetti Cafe to investigate having Dinner there on Thursday night. I was very disappointed in what they offered and the venue which was stuck down the back of the shop.
After discussions with Gert, I have 2 suggestions,
Number 1. Ral ,Gert and I have booked an apartment in the Clock Tower for Thursday night. We could host a buffet dinner there, we could supply basics, a cooked chicken, quiche and salad and wine, and anyone who wishes to partake could bring something extra, to the value of $10 to share. This would be from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm and then to Brunetti for Coffee, cake and / or Gelato. Could also visit Readings Bookstore.
Option 2. Most Cafes in Lygon Street don't take bookings. However some of the cheaper ones do. We have eaten at Papa Gino's who do a good pizza and pasta as well as other dishes. Quite cheap. Could then also go to Brunetti for coffee and cake etc.
Please tell me what you would like to do by Friday. Majority wins.

I'm easy Chookie but can't help thinking you will be stuck with a lot of food if we all bring something. Food that you wouldn't want to take with you to the Swanston. Perhaps it would be easier for everyone concerned to go out for a meal.
