Good on you Gretchen. ;D  Mine was a melanoma and it has been nearly 3 years. Not as spooky as breast cancer though. In fact I'm off for my check up next week. Do you still have checks after 15 years?

Every year cookie1. You do the same I hope. Have every mole lump or discolouration mapped. Nothing is for sure in this life.

Thought this was a very interesting report Cyndi Meara put out about Soy Products.

Yes Gretchen, I am very good. I have just moved from 3 monthly checks and this will be my first 6 monthly check. Lovely specialist, I even look forward to them!!

We drink alkalised water now to help our diet as well. All in the name of looking after yourself as best you can  ;)

The soy issue is a worry for me as I only have soy milk in my tea and coffee. I don't drink it by the glass, but I just can't stand the taste of milk. This is due to a naturopath putting me on a strict diet of no wheat, dairy, yeast and sugar in 1999 for a period of 6 months. I was a skeleton by the end as it was soo hard to find gluten free products and soy milk in those days. I had shocking hay fever, so I was prepared to do anything!!
It worked and I no longer suffer from hay fever. But I just can't go back to regular milk in my tea and coffee. The good news is that I have cut down on my daily beverages after listening to Cyndi's CD's.
But since I make my own bread, cakes and biscuits, I'm unlikely to be exposed to as much soy as those who buy pre prepared foods.
I used to have only alkaline water, like you kathryn, but the damn water filter (Nikken) took up too much space and the filters were too expensive. I now make do with a filter on our tap.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

We went and had lunch with some new but lovely friends yesterday. They seemed to use salt in their cooking and also deep fried food. We use no salt and never deep fry, I always do it in the oven. We were so thirsty from the salt it wasn't funny, then I ended up with heartburn. The meal was really lovely though. I didn't think we had changed our ways that much, but obviously we have.

This is a real problem Cookie1.  Like you, I eat healthily and deep frying is rarely used in this house.  Old friends are OK as they usually know your eating habits but new friends haven't had much of a chance to get to know these things.  Mmm, bit of a problem, how do you tell them :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

I'm a big chicken- so in my case I don't tell them. Just fill up on salad and say how full I am. When they come here I usually make a TMX recipe and carry on about how healthy it is. We've only known them for about 9 months but have become very firm friends and see each other every couple of weeks for a meal. Lunch usually starts about 10am and then we leave about 6pm. It's lovely.
