Yesterday I decided to make Chocolate and Hazlenut biscotti.  As the name suggests, you need chocolate and hazlenuts - easy you would think .. well, for most people it probably is, but I went completely off the rails with this one.

First off, I ground the hazlenuts, but didn't listen to my TMX and ended up with hazlenut butter ... ah well, I forgot to buy peanut butter for DH at the market on the weekend, so he can have hazlenut instead.  Fortunately I had bought some blanched almonds for another recipe and I had just enough to make almond meal (listening carefully to my TMX this time) to substitute almond for hazlenut and all then went well ... until I was just sliding the baking trays into the oven and realised I had forgotten to add the cocoa powder to the mixture!  However, I made up for that when I iced them in a total abstract mess of dripping chocolate (wish I could take a photo of the resulting excitingly bloppy biscotti at the end, but I can't, unfortunately, so you will all have to use your imaginations here).

The good part was that they taste great, so I guess everything was not lost!

Loved your failure to follow the recipe Marina and the success you had in spite of it. :D

Macarons as per Mara's recipe from super kitchen machine. I often but DD a macaron treat when we go to coffee shops, I wanted her to see how they are made so we whipped some up tonight and she even piped some herself, she's chuffed :)

Maybe tomorrow Cookie, I need to make a filling and haven't decided what kind yet. They are just a plain macaron so I'm thinking maybe strawberry or vanilla. I've tested a few though and they have the crunch on the outside and the chewy inside and most importantly they have feet! DD is only just three so hers are interesting shapes, I didn't have the heart to re-pipe them!

Wow, it sounds as though they are perfect. DH thinks I am silly when I jump around saying 'they have feet'.

I've just made some of Tenina's strawberry jam. This time I blitzed the vanilla bean when I made the caster sugar. I now have some pumpkin in the varoma cooking so I can make 2 Pumpkin Fruit cakes. Different recipes. One is Flo Bjelke Petersons.

The spiced apple & pear paste from QFEO, for weekend drinks

And Amanda's brownies

Which I made in the "perfect brownie pan"....which I only just rediscovered in my cupboard....it actually works brilliantly, and the pieces are baked and separated straight out the oven
