I've got two of Ottolenghi's recipes in the oven now: Hot & Sour Chicken and Roasted Butternut Squash with Cardamon & Nigella Seeds.  First time I've cooked any of his recipes but somehow I don't think it will be the last.

I also made some yogurt and a green smoothie.

I have only had success a couple of times with the bun, I keep making them every few weeks to try and get them right.
I either cook them too long (once they were like rocks :o)
Or I chop up the fruit too much and they don't turn out very nice.
But this time I kneaded the dough without adding the fruit in the TM, let it rise then kneaded again, tipped it out on a floured board then added the fruit and kneaded it into the dough that way.
Turned out perfect this time :)

I would love a homegrown well cured ham but that too is too much to ask for.  I would love to glaze it and baste it on the BBQ. If I could get one at a farm gate I would be in heaven. I won't be buying one from the supermarkets.

There is a butcher shop  2 towns over that one an award for their hams.  It won't help Gert, but I might have to try one.

There is an Italian butcher in Perth that does one of those turkeys that is boned except for the drum sticks and wings  then stuff it with a duck that has been stuffed with a chicken which is stuffed with a spatchcock stuffed with a quail. They cost $250 uncooked and $280 cooked. I always want to try one but never can justify the cost.

The butcher down the road from us does something similar Den. Turkey stuffed with duck stuffed with chicken. We call them Turduckens ;D We had one once, it cost something like $160 and it wasn't as nice as we hoped, so we haven't bought another one :-))

I haven't cooked one but had it at a friends home during the festive season last year. Like Amy I was very disappointed  and have no desire to try it again even if it was $50.

Not much cooking around here this weekend, haven't been home much. Yesterday made CADA for Brekkie & after school fair made a loaf of bread. Today all I've made is chookie's beet root Parmesan & cashew dip, & a raw carrot dip - I'll post the recipe for the latter when I get time. Both were lovely and well received by kids & adults. DD7 has requested boiled eggs for dinner - fine by me, we had a huge lunch!

Sorry meant to say Cookie's beet root dip - apologies cookie, the weekend is catching up on me!

Deedub, Chookie and I don't mind, we are more than happy to accept each others accolades.  :) :) :) (we discussed it at our retreat)
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Everyone's cooking sounds and looks delicious. It's been hot this weekend, so I haven't felt like trying out my oven with the new thermostat. However I succumbed today and made some bread rolls using my sourdough starter and Amy's quiches. I am over the moon with the bread rolls. They are soft and fluffy, although I almost had a post for the oops thread as I put the dough on the back verandah to prove and forgot about it until I had to hang out some washing. The dough had risen so high that it had pushed the lid off the container.
I'm so glad my oven has been fixed !🎉

These things are very popular in  the US now. People fonuts for it. A real status thing. You can even order them online.  I think it is obscene to eat such  thing. It is a 1 st world disease this kind  of self idulgent eating. Like feeding my dogs a $15 turkey when others have nothing. Crazy eh?

I think the spunky boys on my kitchen rules did something like a turducken (love the name Amy ;D) and cooked it slowly in a water bath. I think I have the recipe somewhere.

I am livid cos he didn't tell me that we had to provide everything - I was wondering why no one bought any drinks and I kept having to put bottles in our overcrowded freezer to cool down in time for the next round !!! Of course there was heaps of food but I thought people were bringing their own grog.... When he wakes up....

2nd rise in frigde overnight

its the no fuss recipe but i didnt wash the bowl out after making the umami paste yesterday, cant wait 2 try some
i don't need a recipe i'm italian
