Introduction .... and maybe a confession!!
« on: June 30, 2010, 10:22:15 am »

Hi everyone ... I'm Jackie and I'm in Kent in the UK.   I thought I'd join this forum to encourage me to get my TM out of the cupboard.   My late hubby bought it for me for Christmas 05 and I've used it a few times but it seems to languish in my cupboard doing nothing ... so I wondered if joining this forum might give me some ideas on what to use it for.   It always just seems so much easier to use conventional cooking methods than it is to get the TM out, use it, clean it and put it away again.   :D

Any help and ideas on the best way of using my TM would be appreciated.   :-\

Hope to hear from someone.

Jackie

gosh no jackie, you're making the cardinal sin of putting it away! it needs to live on the bench full time and THEN you will use it heaps!!!!

welcome ;)

Hi jackiew, welcome to the forum.  What a wonderful man your husband was to give you this fantastic machine.  Joining this forum is the first thing you have done to ensure you will use your TMX more. The motivation you will get from reading our recipes and reviews will do the trick I am sure.  Secondly, get the TMX out of the cupboard, put it on top of the cupboard and leave it there.  I would think very few of us put ours away as we use it so many times a day.

OK, step 1 is done .... I can see why I never got it out of the cupboard now, it was buried !!  ;D.   So thank you both for that sound advice.

My TMX now has its own place on the kitchen counter.  Now to find something to cook in it .... I have a lot of beetroot ready for picking in the garden, bought a jar of Beetroot and Horseradish Chutney from a local shop a while ago, does anyone have a recipe for something like this?

Hi JackieW,
welcome and good to hear you have got your TMX its own place on the bench. If you hadn't I'm sure you would have been inundated with people telling you to. Hopefully you will have fun using it regularly now like so many of us do.
I found a great recipe on Best Recipes for Pickled Beetroot which tastes wonderful and is a great way to keep the beetroot. Just google Best Recipes and enter pickled beetroot in the search bar of Best Recipes and it will bring it up. I cooked the beetroot on the stove and made up the pickling sauce and put them all into a large jar.
Other than that we have a beetroot salad recipe in our Every Day Cookbook that I can pm you if you would like it. There are also recipes for beetroot dips and chocolate and beetroot cake on the forum.
In addition to beetroot, there are 2 chocolate cake recipes on this forum which are wonderful and super easy - ILB's Bimby Chocolate Cake and Cornish Cream's Chocolate Fudge Cake - both you just put everything into the TM bowl and blitz and put into your tin and cook. They are a great way to begin using your TMX and enjoying the experience.

Welcome Jackie, I have to say I breathed a big sigh of relief to read that you now have your TMX out of the cupboard. You will be using it all the time now and wonder why on earth you even put it in the cupboard in the first place  ;D ;D Well done. Would love to hear what you have been using it for now that it is out.

Welcome to our tasty corner of the web Jackie!

I must say I've almost had my TMX for 12 months and it's never been packed away in a cupboard in that time..  :D  It even comes with me on weekends away.  :P

Glad you gave into temptation!  ;)

Hi Jackie, another big welcome from one in the land down under.  I have only been  TMX owner since Sunday and could not imagine it being anywhere but on the bench.  I have used it more in these 4 days than any other appliance in the kitchen has ever been used in such a short time.  I tust that you will be as inspired by the wealth of knowledge found on this forum as I have been, I joined up prior to ordering my machine.  The 'pros' on this site are sooooooooo supportive and helpful :) :) :).  Enjoy your 'new' found hepler.

Cheers

Hi Jackie and congratulations. I am so pleased that your TMX is out of the cupboard.  Hopefully in a week or two you will wonder why it was ever put away.  Try recipes on the forum that others have made and had success with and remember if something doesn't work ask here, there are so many helpful people.
If you are into dips there is a nice beetroot dip on here too.

I also make http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1047.0 Bron's Minestrone and add beetroot to it. It's a bit like Borscht then. A funny colour but tasty.
Above all make yourself use it at least once a day for a couple of weeks.
Don't forget to let us know how you are going. :-*

Hi Jackie, was just reading your first post and my first thought was 'Oh my God it needs to be on the bench!" and then as I continue to read all the replies, that is what everyone has said.  Good to see we are all united on this one and that you have some wonderful recipes to try.  I will be trying them myself now.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - no one puts Thermie in a corner (of a cupboard!)

Glad he's now on the bench and getting some use. I can understand the feeling that it's easier to do things the conventional way. Eventually, the TMX will seem like the conventional way, you just need to get used to using it. Welcome and you were very brave to confess - lucky we're all nice people here.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
