Made this today with the mixed plums but haven't tasted it yet.

I get a fruit box delivered from a local orchard every few weeks, and there were a lot of Amber plums in the last box that didn't seem to be softening, so I made a batch of this liqueur. I didn't have any schnapps, so used vodka.
I left the plums to drain as CC suggested, and made  enough to fill the empty 70cl vodka bottle. It already tastes lovely, really plummy  :D, and I'm sure it will only improve if it gets the chance to mature.
I have frozen the plum pulp to use in a crumble in the winter. Love that there is no waste!

This recipe is a godsend! I have a good friend who lives in Vienna and every time she visits she brings another bottle of schnapps. I like most kinds of alcohol, but can't STAND schnapps. It's like drinking rubbing alcohol to me. Just have to wait for plums to be in season and I'm clearing out the back of my liquor cabinet! Because they were gifts the bottles are all lovely and decorative so I'll be sure to put mine right back in!

A use for the schnapps at last Laura.  Perhaps you could send a bottle of your plum wine back home with her next time she visits  ;D

Just wondering if this would work with blackberries.

I ended up making some with vodka and another batch with gin.  We liked the gin better and it's almost all gone.  Next year will do more!
I also loved the cooked plums - I put a few small containers away in the freezer just in small portions to have with my breakfast.  But the freezer was pretty full with Xmas hams, so had to eat most of the plums straight away.  It's a hard life.  ;)

I haven't done this yet. I must do it before the plums disappear.

Made this with vodka instead of schnapps, beautiful.  My plums were the dark variety and with the steamed plums I broke them up a bit and topped them with a crumble mixture.  Will freeze and bake as required.

It's a refreshing drink with lemonade on a warm day.  Might have to make some more when the next lot of plums arrive  ;)
