Well I made these last night but modified it since we cannot use nuts here, so this is what I did.  In replace of walnuts we had sunflower kernals, tamari was replaced by worcestershire and the breadcrumbs were replaced with rice crumbs.  DH said it could of still had meat, but he was saying that as he ate his 4/5 sausage roll  :-))  and DS who doesn't like trying new food things took ages to finally take a bite and ended up eating two and he didn't think they were too bad either, as for DD she ate the first one no worries, then balked at the second one, but I'm going to put that down to she hadn't eaten much yesterday, so said DH.  I will be making them again as I thought they were really good and like everyone else has said not much oily residue if any.  I've even told the family expect them at least once a month ;D ;D

What can I use instead of fetta? Not a fan at all.

DC you would NEVER know it was in there if that is what you are worried about.

I agree, Faffa, the final result doesn't taste as if there's fetta in at all.  Good to see people enjoying this recipe, I always get good feedback when I make it.

Just a quick question. Do you cook these before you freeze them?

I have done both but I suggest you go for uncooked and then cook.  I have cooked them from frozen but forgot to note the time and temp (I am sure I reduced the temp for a little while they defrosted   ??? and then turned it up later)

I've frozen the cooked version so we can just grab smaller portions out of the freezer and warm them up in the microwave for quick snacks as we need them. From frozen, it only takes a minute on high for one serving, instant snack or lunch. They aren't as perfect as directly from the oven but wrapped in paper towel, pretty close.  I guess if I was doing it for entertaining or to impress, I'd freeze the raw ones and do the oven cooking though...

Thank you all for your replies. I made these yesterday for lunch and they were delish  ;D
DH is taking the leftovers for lunch today. When I buy some more walnuts I will make a batch and freeze.

I had every kind of nut except walnuts  ;D  I used pecans and it is in the fridge and I will make them tomorrow.  We'll see how it goes.

I made the EDC Ruff Puff Pastry tonight and finished up the sausage rolls.  DH is on his second one and still has no idea that it's not meat.  LOL.  I am in a house full of men who love to eat meat and resist anything vegetarian.  I will tell him but probably not until he eats one or two more  ;D  BTW it seems fine with the pecans instead of walnuts.

The other non-meat sausage roll recipe on the forum Cottage Rolls uses pecans so the 2 are quite interchangeable.

Thanks for this! We had a vegetarian visitor last week and I thought I'd look around here. I tried this one and I'm glad! My 8 year old who is very picky loved it and keeps asking for more so this will be a keeper. I used 1 tbsp dried basil and 1 tbsp dried oregano for the herbs. Didn't change anything else except that I froze the rolls before cutting them since I thought it was easier to cut them when frozen, just like I do with biscuits. Thanks a lot!

Any suggestions for a non dairy substitution for the feta?  I like the sound of these but would like my boys to be able to have some too.  Or would they be ok just leaving it out?
