I do not eat bought biscuits or cakes tho as they lack a lot of taste, and made it a rule a few years ago that if it wasn't homemade to not even waste the calories on eating it.

CP I love this idea :)

just a quick point re hygiene...there is a danger in being too hygenique...im all for clean well prepared food of course but sometimes its over the top and detrimental? (my english is lacking) to our health..an eg coming from oz and moving to europe now 11 years ago i was like most in oz, freaky about cleanliness and hygiene in general and my 'overprotected' immune system went into serious failure after being in europe a couple of months and i contracted an auto immune disease..basically my own immune system attacked my own body after freaking out at the difference in 'hygiene' standards..i would get sick more often than others and anyway my specialists told me later on that an aussie in europe is like a european in the depths of africa and i discovered that although living in australia i was fine the overthetop issues on hygiene was weakening me...yes they have dogs in some restaurants and terrasses and im sure like anywhere some restaurants are questionable but the bottom line is that sometimes its healthy to be a bit less hygienique..whats happening is germs are getting stronger due to the ever increasing strength of products meant to kill germs and meanwhile your immunity is weakening..its all about balance and common sense...dont go getting freaky about hygiene as in the end it doesnt do anyone any good..i realise unfortunately in any public arena you cant know how the food was prepared and in what conditions and i have to admit at school fetes etc i make cakes and usually end up buiying my own lol..also thankfully i have never been sick from anything bought and if i have doubts about produce or a bought item or meal i just throw it..

blurb over sorry to side track but knowing how sick you can become from being too over the top clean..yes it happens and yes more often than you think..just had to blurb  :)

yes back to school fetes..i find cupcakes are always a hit..i usually theme them or just decorate them..eg for easter i glace them and put a chocolate egg or bunny on top..they always go like wildfire and since having the thermomix i have just used ILB's cake mix in muffin tins and ice and decorate accordingly....it cooks super quick and they are ready to be devoured!!.. :)

I think some schools now insist on not having fillings for cakes such as cream or custard to avoid spoiling throughout the day as well as preventing  the bacterial count rising especially if the cakes and baked goods get delivered the previous day and are sitting around for 12-24 hours before being sold.
I have no problem with buying homemade cakes and as I have a background in microbiology I do know the risks involved but I would rather buy someone' else's cake than eat bought takeaway or eat at certain establishments (no names!) especially when you hear horror stories about  food that gets recycled after landing on floors and then still served up! Not to mention other horrors such as rodents and cockroaches etc in in adequately cleaned kitchens. Knowing some of the parents at our school, I know their kitchens are spotless and I  would rather eat something cooked  by someone I know rather than in  some restaurants i've seen!

Fudge, Rocky Road, cornflake biscuits for kids, KFC spice mix, cookies in a jar, tomato sauce etc. I think the cookies in a jar, vanilla sugar and spice mixes are good for fetes as they will not get affected by the weather. Also lemon concentrate and laundry powder.

My DD came home from school with shaped teddy bear biscuits on icey pole stick that looked really cool. They would sell well I would think at a school fair :)
You could do any shape and decorate with smarties etc.

Cut an Orange (or lemon or lime) in HALF and gut it. Mix the jello then add the jello mix to the half shell and refrig for 3 hours or more. Once solid, slice and serve!

(The perfect version if politics in the school is an issue eg unhygienic environment - thankgod my daughter went to a Steiner school and we made jelly with real juice, gelatin in our kitchen at home no dramas)

When making gello shot (1 cup hot water, box jello, 1 cup various liquors) OPPS sorry just couldn't help myself.

Love the look of these haven't yet had a try, My daughter is coming to visit and will make them for her and will use my old faithful bicie recipe.
I think they would be a popular fete item.

Is that just 2 biscuits joined together but leaving room for the smarties then covered with icing berringamababe.  Looks like a lot of work but yes they would be popular.  Love the jelly idea too - kids love jelly.

Judydawn I think for a fete or Birthday party I would do just 1 colour or marbled biscut and put a few lollies in.

It is actually 3 layers the middle one having a hole in it and they are very large and I would imagine joining them after baking of course so lollies don't melt.
Being a horse shape the centre biscut does not have ears either.

Or Join 2 with the lollies in the centre and a layer of thick icing aound the lollies to join them a bit like a yoyo??
