In the interests of keeping pantry items down and to use what I have FIRST I discovered some long lost poppyseeds and a way past use by date on the icing sugar.  Though I rarely look at these dates I was interested in how long it has been since I thought of using icing sugar.

In any case I almost never make anything sweet and I would say that in my nearly 3 score  years and  10 I have baked no more than 10  to 20 cakes.  So what to do? Then I had a lightball  moment ...orange and poppyseed cake!  Naturally I looked here for expert help .

Gathered the few ingredients  together reached into the fruit compartment to find no oranges but I did have tangelos.  So a cake was born. It looks yummy so far. I added poppy seeds of course and about to make some icing . I am thinking cream cheese with icing sugar and a bit  of Cointreau .

This cake was so easy  even I could make it and that is why I am bumping it for new members.

Not bad for someone who has no interest in baking cakes.

It looks pretty good. Gert!  Did you put some zest in the icing?
