Have fun with the vacuum sealer, we've been using ours a lot more recently and it's so much better than just using freezer bags for the freezer. The only problem I have is washing and drying the bags so they can be reused.

I remember when I was a kid, mum used to wash all her plastic bags and hang them on the washing line to dry.  Mind you, they were much stronger and thicker in those days, I think the vacuum sealer ones are also thick enough to do this with.

I do that some of the time Marina but find it's a real pain and the ones I have at the moment seem to split quite easily. The ones I got with my machine were much thicker.

I remember the plastic bags on the line too.

Wonder if you wrap your food in a normal plastic bag securely and place that in the vacuum seal bag it may help. I know some people do that. We buy ours by the 100 at Master Butchers so don't bother re using them.

Me too Cookie! My grandma used to only rinse hers out, whereas Mum used to put her in the washing machine. Grandma's all stunk when it came to bagging the fresh beef/mutton when we did a kill on the farm, so Mum always made sure hers went in a separate pile to ours!

Cookie, do you know how much you pay and the size of the bags? I'm looking for a cheaper supplier online but know I'll still feel bad throwing them out after one use.

We pay about $36/100 for A4 and $25.50 for 150mm wide by A4 length.  If we can we cut them in half. Eg for a single chicken breast.
