Hi from the Central Coast, NSW :-)
« on: August 09, 2011, 10:43:32 pm »
Hi there,

I am a very excited brand new Thermie owner (it came yesterday) who wishes she didn't have to be at work but could be at home instead playing... I was very fortunate to be able to take advantage of the Newcastle Show special so not only did I receive the 2 x 2.2 litre Thermoservers (they ran out of the 1 litre ones), but I also received the bread mat, apron, bag, brush and 3 extra little books (Raw, Budget Busters and Lunch box ideas).

I have been lurking here for a few days and have already picked up some great hints and tips (thanks everyone). I have answered the poll, although wasn't sure what to actually put as I was born in Scotland, grew up in South Africa from the age of 3 and have now been in Australia for 14.5 years, so I'm a bit of a Commonwealth kid  ;)

Hubby isn't yet convinced that I will use the TM enough to justify the cost, but I know I will be proving him wrong in no time at all. I have a Vitamix that I love and am not ready to part with yet, but I think the breadmaker, rice cooker and food processor will be finding new homes soon. The TM cooked our stir fry veg to perfection last night, it was a great first result.

I am a vegetarian (only since the beginning of the year) and have also recently gone dairy free, so I am looking forward to experimenting with recipes with that in mind - the Vegetarian cookbook is on my list of must haves. I have already discovered Quirkycooking's blog (love it!!) and the SuperKitchenMachine site. Oh for more hours in the day to be able to read everything that is so freely available...

DH and I have no kids or pets and lead a very uncomplicated life. Looking forward to becoming a regular poster here and gleaning loads of fantastic info from you all.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum NikiG.  You're right about proving your DH wrong:  your TMX will become such a great kitchen helper!
You did get a great deal:  lucky you!

You certainly did get a good deal NikiG.  Hi and welcome to the forum.  You are off and running, finding blogs that we would have suggested. Check out the index of a recipe book called Rainbow Recipes here - it may suit your needs. Aileen's email address is in the first posting before the index is shown.

welcome NikiG to the forum. You were very lucky to have such good timing and score all those extra items  :D DH will need to starve himself for the weekend, as I am sure he is going to be stuffing himself on the weekend.

Hi and welcome NikiG, You will find the TM will be your best friend in the kitchen. My DH and myself are still amazed by the TM and how easy it makes preparing recipes. I just made Tomato relish which would normally take me a full day to make but only took me an hour to make 2 batches. It really is a super machine and I would hate to be without it for more than a day. Good luck but I don't think you will need it as The TM will prove itself to your DH in no time.

Welcome NikiG. What a great bargain getting all those extras. Roll on weekend so you can get stuck into cooking.

Hi NikiG. Great to have another Central Coaster here! Welcome - you got a great deal and this is a fantastic place to get ideas, recipes and share the TMX enthusiasm. I'm not sure whether my TMX does save me time - only because I use all the time it saves to do more cooking. So I end up spending just as long in the kitchen! But I do have more to show for it. Have fun with your new 'toy'.

Thanks very much for the warm welcome  :D I know that I have lots to learn and that I am definitely in the right place! One thing I learned tonight while making Moroccan Chickpea Stew is that if you don't have fresh parsley, celery leaves make an acceptable substitute!

I love celery leaves. My vegie stock is always green because I throw all the celery leaves in.

Jenny, I often put them in my green smoothie if I don't have enough kale or spinach, but I wasn't sure how they'd go replacing parsley.

the other night I saw a show where they had a group of 20 chefs étoilé (those who have earned michelin stars..not an easy task) where one used the whole raddish, leaves and all...he made a puree/paste with the leaves adding a little cream and seasoning and made a salad with some vinegar, chives etc with the radishes...put the paste on a piece of toast like a slice of cibiatta bread then the radish salad mix on top...looked yum and no waste!

Wow that's taking sustainability to a whole new level. Love that they are using everything though.
