That's the problem Gert, can't think of anything myself but someone might come up with an idea.  Do you like popcorn?

My gap is like that Uni.  I don't think it was quite as wide when new though but it's working well.  Brilliant vessel for the popcorn, what is it?

You will love it Gert, i have a metal steamer basket that can sit over any food you dont want to fly away.
Lots of fun experimenting for you.

Uni open the drawer and you will see the basket is slightly higher that the cover and they are all the same. Yes a gap but no gap inside

The popcorn looks like crap burnt kernels and small buds of corn. Thanks for trying and I like your basket thingy.

Bedlam I will have a look for a thing like yours but not tonight! Footy is on.

Gert,  I find the problem with light food being sucked up to the element a bit of an issue.  I have tried holding the food down with pie dishes that I shift around.  When I get home DH is going to remove the long handle from a wire scoop / strainer used for removing food from liquid.  Cheap ,  from Chinese shops.  I think this will solve the problem.

Mine has a gap Uni, and it has got a bit bigger with lots of use.  Still works wonderfully.  We are having a bits and pieces tea, spring rolls( amazing how much fat pours out) meatballs and sausage rolls.  I know, very healthy!
