I also buy home brand flour and SR flour. Don't buy baking powder, just add bicarbonate & cream of tartar.

I found some cream of tartar in the pantry a few weeks ago... I didn't know what it was supposed to be for and it's use-by date was sometime in 2007, so I threw it out ;D

I am sure  it would have been fine so  long as there  were no weevils in it.

I just  opened and used  a 2009 bottle of Passata. Remember our mothers never had use by dates. Nobody died.

I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!

Bugger times 10.  Did it crack the tiles?  Must have taken hours to clean.

It took ages to clean, DH helped clean the mess, the tiles are good as new, no cracks. It was a full bottle of oil.
Just topped the day off,DH and I both got stuck on the freeway coming home from work for an hour and a half, DS rings to say he is on the side of the road he ran out of petrol, (miles away) it was after 7 before DH and I got back.

I think use by dates are for wimps! Seriously, I did a spring (make that autumn) cleanout of my panty recently as I was sick of the avalanche I was getting everytime I opened the cupboard doors- well, primarily, my DH was  complaining - not that he goes into the pantry that often. I found packets of jelly crystals, old spices, packet mixes ( I know, shameful, but all from well and truly before I had my TM). What's even worse is that a lot of this stuff accompanied us when we moved out for our renovation and then moved back 18 months later so I haves some things circa 2003.  Nothing looked like a science experiment gone wrong though!

Hopefully that was hour three for a bit.

I hate it when your children phone YOU when the run out of petrol. My DH when a teenager did it often. Drove us nuts.
