Nazar how are things with you after the fires down there?

we are alright here  fire did not come this close
the last few weeks have been very much of a worry
the fires are contained and under control but are not out
the area was such a big area which got burnt and it was about 20 km east of here
l was very grateful they were able to control the fire before it got closer
the weather has been terrible here
no lives were lost so far one man is in a coma after having a bike crash
as he could not see because of the smoke
a lot of state forest and some farms were burnt
a lady at the lodge were l work said to me that she moved here in 1974 and its the closest a fire has been to augusta
l was thinking l might get a fireproof box to put important paper work in some photos on cd and a few special items for sentimental reasons

Nazar, I'm glad you're ok.  It would have been awful to be so close to a major fire.

On a much lighter note, Deedub, my dirty windows don't stop me from cooking and I'd rather spend some time in the garden than worry about cleaning windows regularly  ;)

I'm with you there Carine. Windows are hubbys job.  ;D With all the rain we have had, we haven't had a chance to do windows. Considering paying someone to do it for me. I prefer to cook and garden than clean.

One easy solution for you might be the cling film, or static cling film that can be clear, decorative, frosted or ???.
I used to have it on the lower half of my kitchen windows that face a bike path that runs about thirty feet away, along my fence on the north side of my property.   People walking or biking would stop and look to see what was going on so I applied the frosted stuff.
I still have it rolled up in tubes but as now there are dense rosemary hedges too tall for people to look over, I don't need it.

Static cling film.

It also has the advantage of keeping the window glass clean.  We used that counter for electric fryers, which really can mess up windows.

fundj :D

I like your way of thinking. The car window shade would also keep thermie clean as she lives next to my hot plates.

Still enjoying this thread, thanks to all for keeping it going.  Loving the sunsets, the kitchens . . . and the discussion about dirty windows!  I haven't cleaned my windows since January last year, and then my dad did them for me, I think. This is not good, seeing as we live by the sea and salt gets on everything.  A (very direct) friend of mine visited not long ago and she said, "It's such a lovely sea view . . . pity you can't see it!"  Harsh, eh!  Have almost talked teenages on into cleaning them, I think (for money).

PS Find it interesting that some of you have female thermies, mine's a boy.
