A very poor meal but...
« on: October 01, 2011, 04:57:45 pm »
A number of families come and go from an International School environment.  Everyone knows that I love to cook so when they leave, I get bag fulsomely of herbs and spices, flour etc etc.

I was a given one of those bottles of instant curry, cannot remember the brand name.  I was tired last night so I grabbed a packet of chicken wings and through in the sauce.  On  :-: speed, 100° for 18 mins, there was dinner.  I would never dare suggest this a "recipe" such as this should ever be posted but I wonder if anyone else has ever cheated like this?  I did also make Naan bread from scratch and stir fry vegetables from EDC.  So it was not all bad.  But come on, who has ever cheated and thrown a nasty instanced bottle of something into their Thermomix? Come on, confess!!!!!

Xxx

Sorry to disappoint you Lee but no I haven't - I still have a jar of pasta sauce and Korma curry sauce in the pantry from before I bought my TMX.  I must throw them in the bin. Mind you, I am home a lot more than you so time is not an issue with me. If we need a quick meal, I either make it the day before or first thing in the morning. Even when I was working, I would often cook the next night's meal after we'd eaten unless it was just meat & veg.

When we go away on our yacht at Christmas time I am going to have to be super organised or resort to that sort of cooking, Deb potato, and jars of stuff that can be thrown together, as Thermi  won't work ( the extension cord just isn't long enough ;D)

Storage is a problem as we only have a small freezer on board at the moment.

We haven't decided yet, we might go over to Rottnest Island and moor there for a few day and then head south. All depends on the weather and who comes with us. As its a big yacht it takes a bit of work for DH to rig everything up so we can lower the mast to get it under the bridges at Fremantle. We do a lot of sailing in the Swan River as that is where we have a pen for her.

I loved the Rottnest Island trip I did with a friend a few years ago - unfortunately preTMX or I would have caught up with all you lovely Perthites - and the Swan River is just amazing.  Could live overlooking that for sure  ;D

Ha ha, Lee!  They are a bunch of purists eh!  Well I can admit to doing this . . . following a suggestion in the EDC, I used some bought curry paste/sauce stuff to make Fast Chicken Curry . . . it was edible, but I haven't done it again since making my own balti curry sauce and tika paste and my own curry powder and garam masala!!  And recently I made soup with stock cubes, ugh!   Never again!  We do get spoilt with TMX's!

Yes, I will have to own up to using some Sharwoods curry pastes.

I don't make curries often so no curry paste here.  I do confess to buying beef stock powder though. I only use it occasionally in swiss beef and winter soup so I don't think it is worth making the paste for those two dishes. I don't use packets or jars but my stand-by meals are so basic that they are almost as easy as using prepared foods (not very gourmet :P). :)
