Andie you've inspired me to grow some. Got a nice fresh sprout on the piece I just bought ready for the ground.

On the same day ginger cost $19.99/kg at Woolies, and $9.99/kg at the local fruit & veg shop, in the ginger growing region. The Woolworths ginger would have travelled hundreds of Kms to the distribution centre to be distributed back to here.
DH hates ginger, his first job in Aust was picking it. I would drive him to the farms at dawn and the smell of ginger in the air was lovely, but not for him. I sneak it in the food anyway.
Crystalized ginger $12/kg.

I went to buy some Ginger today a just about had a fit, it was $25.99 kg at Coles and our local IGA $24.99 kg. Big price rang since i last bought some.

I tried to grow some ginger in the past but the most I got was some green leaves which got plucked by our naughty ducks

The price must have jumped up in the past week because I only paid $12.99 last week at Foodland.

This is why I've resorted to buying the inferior minced ginger. Whenever I buy fresh ginger I use a little and then forget I have it and it goes all wrinkly and horrible in the fridge.

I add a good slice of fresh ginger to my TMX juice every morning so it hasn't got a chance to go mouldy

Thanks you the tips. When we lived in NQ we used to grow our own and I'd pull it out of the garden as needed.

l went to but some ginger today as l was all inspired by andie to grow some
l nearly fell over when l saw the price $24.99 a kg from IGA supermarket
so l only brought 2 little pieces
l normally use the jar stuff as l forget l have the fresh stuff in the fridge
l live in south west of western australia

5.95€/kg but when i go to Barcelona i can get it at 3€/kg
