Recipe Review FETA TART Dinner Spinner p35
« on: January 02, 2012, 04:41:13 am »
YUM!!!  I have posted about this amazing recipe in one of the general Dinner Spinner threads, but I really think it deserves more of a focus.

It's a very clear recipe, with an excellent picture to give you what to aim for.

I've made this three times over the Christmas hols, and each time felt more comfortable making a double recipe.

I plan to serve it again this weekend and am superproud to be the owner of such a helpful little recipe collection.

Thanks Tenina.  5/5 for sure, and many happy returns to this recipe.

From another thread:
Is the vodka crucial in the feta tart Tenina.  Could I substitute something else - cidar vinegar or lemon juice perhaps?  :)

Hi Chelsea, not crucial, it is just in the batter used for the base and it prevents the fat from cooking, being absorbed into the batter…also gives it a bit of a crunchier outside texture…(now there is a lesson for all of us in there somewhere…if vodka prevents fat absorption..?…I digress!!)
BUt yes, I think another acid would work pretty well the same, so preferably lemon juice.
Good luck, and let me know how it goes...

Cecelia did you use the vodka as per the recipe? it does sound a little strange and I can't even imagine what it tastes like. Can you taste the vodka?

Yes, I added it happily and no it didn't taste of vodka.  See the quote I have added to my original posting where Tenina explains the role of the vodka.  Did I say highly recommended?

This is quite different to what you expect. We loved it. There is no taste at all of vodka.

JD here, this is Cookies review from another thread when she made it on December 14, 2011.

Last night we had the Feta Pie. It was certainly different. I only made ˝ again. Initially we all went 'oh', but then each of us went back for seconds, so I guess that means we definitely like it. I served it with roasted tomatoes and vegies.

this is a great recipe, as Cookie says above and easy!  I used quite a large baking tin and the batter for the base was spread very thinly, which worked well but I wonder what size tin others have used.

Sometimes I've used a baking dish and sometimes a big lamington tray.  I always make double the recipe though.  (I'm not greedy, but I like this a lot and I like one piece to left at the end for me. ;) )

It has proven to be such a hit Tenina so obviously this is what people want  ;) Simple but not boring and certainly impressive enough to serve guests.

Absolutely delicious. I topped mine with fresh figs, prosciutto and feta.

Yummy yummy and sooooo easy.
