Well my verdict is that it is not too bad. The towels still come out rather stiff and the smell of the soap is rather overpowering even after everything is dry. Is your velvet soap as strong as the sunlight soap?  So I thought I might add some essential oil and see how that will work out. I had some rosemary oil so have put a few drops of that in.  I have a front loader and the soap didn`t make any froth in it, so it is pretty safe to use. Someone said that they use vinegar as a final wash and I was wondering if that would soften the clothes at all? Sandy

Maybe Sunlight soap is more powerful than Velvet as I have just taken things off the line and I can't smell anything except freshness. My towels don't dry stiff (unless they are the older ones which are stiff anyway) and I have used white cheap vinegar in my final rinse for years now.  My washing machine is 15 years old and I have never had 1 problem with it - now that I have said that it will probably break down next week :P :P Mind you, it doesn't get used every day like some people with young families. So, how much did you use in your front loader Intrepidtrier?

I started out using about 1 capful from a liquid detergent bottle and then added about half a cup next time. I have also found a blog about making soap, it`s called down-to-earth/rebatching soap and on there she shows how to make soap using lux flakes.

You're welcome always!
But I have given up attempting to get my beach bod back! But at least I had it when I was young, some people don't even have it then! So we mustn't complain, or have such high expectations, after all we ARE mummys....and not all mummys get their figures back. I certainly didnt!  ;D But when I was 20 I WAS drop dead gorgeous, which is what I remind myself every morning when I look in the mirror! Shame it didnt last, but hey health, family & THX are all the things that make me happy! :D :D :D

I never had that drop-dead gorgeous figure - but didn't feel like scaring the natives while on hols, BUT, the natives really don't care!!!  The sights you see on and around the beachs and swimming pools - they are happy with their figures and all believe they are beautiful - LET IT ALLLLLLLLL hang out.   ;D ;D

They certainly let it ALL hang out! Think my husband chose the area to live as in those days we had a dog, and it was fun to walk the dog and have a nosey! :o :o :o

I made this today with something I had in the cupboard called "pure soap". Wow, it didn't look like breadcrumbs, more like baking powder and it went straight up my nose and gave me the sneezes. It may be because the soap was rather old and had dried out?

Is anyone else petrified when they add ammonia to anything? I felt like a mad scientist and wondered if I would blow something up  :-[

I managed to fill a 2.4L container with it though (not very well as I got a heap in the sink too! Hah!) and we will see how it develops :) My TM is stinky now, not gorgeously clean like when I made the dishwasher goo. :(

I do use ammonia normally anyway, so it doesnt concern me! Its safer than bleach to be honest, at least it can't stain anything, or burn skin as here we dab it on mozzy bites. ;) My THX is lovely and clean after this, much more than the dishwasher goo, so it must be the soap! ???

Rowyfo, mine looks like powder (not breadcrumbs) too so age has nothing to do with it.  You didn't put the ammonia in the TM bowl did you? You shouldn't have had room to do so anyway but I can't think why your machine smelt stinky - it is afterall, only soap and doesn't get stinky until you add the ammonia once it has been put into a container.

The bowl just smells really, really soapy and was very hard to clean. Might try yellow soap next time, once this lot runs out.

I put the ammonia straight into the bottle :)
