Bought some beautiful 'Honey Pears" at the farmers market and have just made a Walnut and Pear cake,  converted to TMX.  Will post if OK.  There real name is Winter Neilis and a 2 k. bag was $5.

Mines 20 years old this year and has been used for everything from beef jerky to yoghurt drops.  I go through phases of not using it but it has done a lot of work lately as I found mushrooms for 3.99 a kilo, onions for 49c a kilo and the pink lady apples.  The mushrooms were great because they are really quick to slice using an egg slicer and I love throwing a handful of them in a casserole.  I made a quick vegetable soup yesterday by grabbing a handful of mushrooms, and other dried vegetables and dumping them in the multicooker with some chicken stock.  Took all of 1 minute to do.  My biggest problem is getting the dried product into vacuum bags and sealed before my daughter eats it.....she has discovered dried zucchini and mushrooms taste good.  I'm currently drying some beef jerky.

Wow stacelee, that sounds great. Maybe I should invest in one... ???

I have never heard of Honey Pears. Can you describe for me please chookie? Are they a green or brown pear? Would they be good just for eating?

Ha ha Chookie, that's what I do - keep testing it to see if it is still OK.  Probably the reason I don't bake very often and if I do, I put it in the freezer very quickly to stop me doing this.

I take it you enjoyed them Amy.  Get yourself some more, the season doesn't have long to go (finishes mid June).

They were lovely! I can't believe I've never had them before. One of them had some little dark spots in the flesh, but I took a little bite first and didn't keel over, so I don't think it was off. And I couldn't resist eating it anyway, tooooooooo yummy :D

Oh no! :'( Have you tried freezing them Judy?
