These buns are very common in Malaysian bakeries. Very happy that I managed to actually make them 😄 The stuff I learnt after getting my thermomix AND joining this forum....priceless😁😁

I used bread dough made in my breadmaker, but you can probably use any dough. Just sharing the method, rather than a full on recipe. I must say that the Panasonic dough is yummy. Soft and fragrant 😋😋
INGREDIENTS
6-8 sausages, cooked
1 egg
1 lot of any thermomix bread dough, or use the dough recipe from Panasonic breadmaker:
2 tsp dry yeast
475 g bread flour
2 tsp salt
3 tbsp powdered milk
45 g butter
1 1/4 tbsp raw sugar
300 ml water
METHOD
1. Prepare dough in TM. Add water and yeast in the bowl, mix 2min, 37deg, sp2. Then add the rest and knead for 2 mins. Transfer to oiled bowl and leave to rise until doubled. (Thanks Jo for this step 😃)
2. Remove to a clean floured surface. Deflate and divide the dough into 4 to 8 equal portions. Knead into ball shapes. Cover with cling wrap, let rest for 15 minutes.
3. Knead each part into a long tube, about 3x the length of sausages. Twirl dough around sausage. Place rolls on a tray lined with baking paper, cover with cling wrap.
4. Leave it for the 2nd round of proofing, about 45 to 60 minutes, until double in size.
5. Brush whisked egg on surface of rolls. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if you like.
6. Bake in a pre-heated 160C ff oven for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
7. Transfer onto a wire rack and let cool completely.
This recipe is suitable to freeze.

These look great. I am going to make these this weekend for the kids' lunch boxes.
Thanks for sharing.
-
Thank you BZB.
-
Thanks for the recipe - they look similar to "Withchety Grubs" that we buy from a country bakery. They smother a Vienna sausage with mustard and encase it in pastry like yours. DH loves them :)
-
Yum, was hoping you would share. :)
thanks bzb. :-*
-
Thanks BZB. I love the look of these. They would make a nice Sunday dinner.
-
A pleasure, ladies. Hope u try it out 😃
Jo, it is perfect for lunch boxes. I've got 4 in the freezer for a future lunch 😄
ES I like the smothering idea. Would it affect the proofing of the bread though? If it doesn't it would be great to add chilli sauce 😋
-
You could always send a little container of dunking sauce with the sausages.
-
Look great 😄
-
I have these in the oven. Loving the whole idea of these - mine are not quite as pretty as yours, BZB, but I think the trial run will be eaten in no time, and I am happy to practice a few more times to get it right.
-
Yay! 😄 Which dough did you use, Jo?
-
I used the Panasonic one you posted - seems a lovely soft bread. Kids very excited with their lunch today, and to have DD excited about anything with bread is a big achievement.
-
So pleased to hear your DD was looking forward to lunch, Jo 😄😀
Do you have the steps for making the dough in the TM? I will add into the recipe. One less to-do in my list 😁
-
I just used the method I do for most non-tmx doughs I make: water and yeast in the bowl, mix 2min, 37deg, sp2. Then add the rest and knead for 2 mins. Then place in bowl and leave to rise until doubled before shaping as needed. :D
-
Oh, and they are all gone already.
-
Thanks Jo. I've added your method to the recipe for easy reference 😄

another batch of these just out of the oven :)
-
Jo, they do look wonderful . .! :D I'm really tempted to give these a go soon!
-
They look great Jo! Bet they don't last long.
-
Yum these look like what I used to sneakily buy for a quick lunch at the pretzel shop, before they all closed down :(
I can't wait to make them thanks bzb :D
-
As good As BZB's Jo, fantastic
-
These would be great at kids' parties. Can little ones get their mouths around them or are they smaller than they look girls?
-
They're not tiny! Like what we'd buy from the shops here called "long rolls", plus a sausage inside.
My kids like them to be cut in half for the lunchbox to make them a bit easier. I might have to try them with mini sausages and smaller bits of bread dough.
-
We had these on Sunday for dinner. I'm afraid mine were not dainty like BZB's. I should have made the bread thinner before I wrapped it round the sausages. However we still loved them and I will know for next time.

How thin is the bread dough supposed to be cookie? I think I would like it thick, I love bread ;D
-
Mine was about an inch thick when I wrapped it round the sausages. Then of course it rose. We still loved them. One was well and truly a meal.
-
They look lovely and would be fun for the kids to make and eat.
On the never ending list.
-
We call these 'Pig in a Blanket'. Normally done with frankfurts, but sausages would be so much nicer. Thanks for the recipe, I'll be making these soon as I think DH would love these for lunch.
-
Just made 21 sausage buns :o, (had nothing left in the freezer for dh's lunches.)
we had them for lunch, got the full thumbs up from all, with dh even giving me ideas for "next time" ;D
thanks for sharing bzb, delicious. :-*
will post pic later if I am not to embarrassed... mine are not pretty like everyone else, started ok but then got too much for my wrist so just sorta covered the sausages with dough however it went on! :-)) :-)) :-[
-
great idea, will make this weekend.
-
It's the taste that matters Astarra. These sound great. Can't wait to have an oven again.
-
What a great idea, something different than slapping a sausage in bread and looks much nicer :)
-
Made some of these for while we are watching the football. They were a hit. :)
-
Yay! Thanks for trying these out, Den 😄
-
I love these I might have to try them.

Hey MeganJane,
Oooohhhh now you are talking! Pigs in blankets in the UK are normally sausages wrapped in bacon and then cooked......I am loving the subtle 'breakfast in a roll' Pigs in Thermal Blanket option that this combination could become........
MrsRC2B is checking out this very link as I type so we may well be making a batch of these pretty much as soon as I arrive - these could be a great way to soak up some of the drink whilst watching the Wallabies v All Blacks on Saturday!
Thanks for sharing the recipe.

A pleasure, RC. Have a great time watching your game 😃

I had left over pizza dough in the fridge & a pack of 10 pork sausages. Whilst I had the sausages cooking in one pan - I had another pan softening & browning some sliced onions. Divided my dough into 10 squares; big enough to wrap around the sausage. Spread a thin layer of wholegrain mustard on the dough, layered the softened onions, finally adding the sausages and rolling. Delicious! Cross between sausage bun & calzone. They were all eaten :o
-
Sounds a good adaptation Shally.
-
Bought sausages today and put in freezer, will make soon. Tempted to put bacon round first as RTC suggested, and fried onions... So many possibilities.
Thanks BZB
