Hi there everyone, :)
I haven't got a thermomix yet, but desperately want and need one! My Mum has had hers for 3 years and since going to her demo, i have been sold.... its just convincing my partner! I'm sure that when i have a demo, he will be too.
I'm trying to work out how would be the best way to pay. Not sure whether we can afford to do the credit card, or to go with the payment for a year.
I keep looking on this forum, reading everyones raves and am so jealous because i know how much i will use it. I have 3 hungry kids to feed (all boys) and im sure a thermomix would be a most welcome addition to my busy kitchen!
Anyway, just thought i'd say hi and hopefully soon i will be able to be one of you and tell you what i've been making!!
Julia
-
Welcome Julia! I hope you can join us soon. It's certainly a fantastic help in feeding the kids.
I did the three monthly payment plan which spread it a little, and only cost approx $50 more. Over a year I think is quite expensive. But however you can do it, as long as it works for you.
I've noticed that even when I get home extra late, with a little planning I don't have to resort to take away. Previously it was a given on those nights. So that's $20-$30 a week that we're saving, let alone the health benefits.
-
Welcome Julia!
You are correct about feeding the boys... I have 3.. and a diva as well. ;)
TiM is my favourite addition to the kitchen and is used constantly... can't imagine being without him now!
Hope you can make it happen soon! ;D
-
Hey Julia,
I've been there, done that, so I know how you feel.
I'm sorry but I'm not a person to ask about buy-now/pay-later. I firmly believe that (apart from things like houses and maybe cars) if you don't have the money already, or won't have it by next payday, you should wait. I hate paying interest and fees to anyone, but that's just me. Luckily I'm currently in an Ok position where we can save up for things fairly quickly if needs be. Not everyone is in my situation unfortunately.
It's really up to how long you can hold out. The 3 credit card payments is probably the middle of the road option between paying the most fees and getting it the soonest, as long as you can pay your credit card off. I haven't had mine long enough to tell if there are savings to offset the costs, but I'm assuming there will be. So you can factor that in too, if anyone has some hard figures.
Do you have a blender at the moment? Youc an alwasy build up the "justification" points by trying to use it to make stuff. I found the more I swore at it, the better I felt about the Bimby purchase :)
Russell.
-
Welcome Julia. I know just how you feel. Once you have made the decision and bought it I found I didn't feel bad about the price at all. It is worth it. Even though we are retired I think I would replace mine if something happened to it.
Perhaps try Russell's suggestion-try things in the blender. Hope you can have your demo soon. Guys seem to love it once they've seen what it can do.

Guys seem to love it once they've seen what it can do.
I subscribe to the Tim Allen school of thought - MORE POWER!!
Make sure you drag the SO along :)

-
LOL - once you see them in action they are hard to resist. Good luck with your quest.
-
Julia, I feel for you - reading this forum with all of us Thermomix-loving-addicts chatting away amongst ourselves daily and you standing on the outside looking in. Well, you have taken the first step by joining us on the forum and if it was up to us, you would have your TMX tomorrow. Can you borrow Mum's for a few days to show DH just how much you would use it? Just an idea. Can't help you out with the finance bit unfortunately. Hope you work something out real soon.
-
Welcome to the forum Julia. I believe in positive thinking and I feel you have made a positive step by joining us and will have your own tmx very soon. :)
-
Hi Julia and welcome.
I agree with rainbow, start thinking that it will happen and it will!
I think Judy's idea is a good one too. See if Mum will let you have it for a week. The family will hate it when you have to give it back!
-
Especially if you do a bit of planning before hand and make sure that everything that you make is wow and yum!
-
Gr8 idea JD and as Cookie1 said- you can plan around what your partner likes. Question is- can your mum part with it for a few days or a week? As we all know its a BIG ask ;D ;D
-
Hi again, and thanks for everyones welcome and encouragement.
It seems to be that i cant stop thinking about thermomix!! It's in my head and think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a demo.
I've been thinking, :-)) and told the DH that because i've got some work coming up, that i can put that towards my new toy! He said "oh i thought we would put that towards the new paving!!!" Yeah right, i don't think so. Then i started saying all the yummy things i could make and he just rolls his eyes, ha ha :-))
-
Hi Julie,
I know how you feel. My DH had me wait, lurking on this forum, getting all excited and trying to tell myself that I didn't "need" a TM. I am currently at my Mum's and made the Chickpea Choc Chip cookies without my TM and I didn't enjoy it. Don't know how I got away without it. A blender just doesn't cut it anymore. Hope you can afford it sooner than later. Look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
-
Hi Julia.
I know how you feel when you say you are thinking about a TMX all the time, although it took me about 6 months to get around to purchasing one - I was lucky that I had a bit of a cash payout from when I resigned from my job to become a full time Mum. I really wish I had heard of them 4 years ago when I had my first baby. I got my DH to see it in action before I bought mine too, they seem to like the mechanical side of things and the speeds it can do!
I absolutely love it and have since become a consultant. If you would like I can come and do an obligation free demo for you and your DH or you can PM me and I can talk over the payment options with you.
Karen ;)
-
Good luck Julie in getting you a TMX. I bought mine whist DH was working away for 7.5 weeks and came home to it on the bench. What could he say, it was there lol. But I don't recommend this approach unless you and your partner have an understanding. My DH wouldn't dare complain otherwise DH boys 2 weeks away will stop ;D.
But just a thought, I did a massive clean out of my kitchen appliances and other non used items to put towards it. As I love my Tupperware I had collected the scales, and a lot of other items that were never used or only a handful of times, I listed them on eBay and www.gumtree.com.au and not only had money towards my toy, also a clean kitchen for it to move into ;D
If things don't get used in a 3-6 month period, it is out of the house except for things like xmas decorations.

Hi everyone,
exciting news..... i've got the use of my Mum and Dads Thermomix until September!!!
I am trying to impress my partner, by using it heaps! So far i have made, lemon custard, porridge, mushroom risotto, pad thai and tonight will be chicken curry!!
I did forget to pick up the butterfly, basket, varoma and the thermomservers, so i will have to go and get them before i make some of the other things.
The pad thai was fantastic! Even my 10 year old loved it. I think i'll have to do a mango sorbet after dinner. Has anyone tried the spaghetti bolognaise? I was thinking i might do that for the kids tonight and the curry for us.
By the way, the forum is brilliant for recipes and also for a few tweaks from the EDC.
Anyway i'd better go get started on impressing everyone!

Cathy79 came up with a great one-pot spaghetti bolognaise recipe. You can find her version on the forum here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2094.0). We love this but some people don't like the texture of mince when it is cooked in the TMX (it goes very fine). Personal preference. :)
P.S - A big welcome to the forum! ;)
-
Here are my suggestions for getting one of your own :)
If you have three kids, you have stuff to sell on Ebay. Make a TMX fund with the money you make.
Clean out your pantry! Use up as much as you can to cut down your food bills for the next few months, put the savings in TMX account! You will not be needing a lot of the stuff in your pantry after having a TMX for a while. Use up all the tinned, packet stuff :)
You will save money on food shopping after getting the TMX, so if you can find the $ to get one, it will eventually pay for itself :)
-
Hi hools003, you are not going to want to give it back after 3 months but I imagine by then DP won't want you to either and you will have worked out how to get one for yourself. Sounds like you are certainly making the most of the loan one in the meantime and hope by now you have picked up the bits that were missing as they are vital to it's complete performance.
-
Hi hools003 and welcome. I agree with Judy, there is no way you will want to give the TMX back after 3 months. That is just time enough to get used to using it lots every day. Have fun with it.
-
My kids love the bolognese (ragu) sauce in the EDC book. I struggle to get my eldest son to eat dinner, but he really likes the fine texture of the mince, and I like hiding carrot, celery and zucchini in there too! They also love it made into lasagne (as in EDC).
-
Does anyone know if you can double the bolognaise sauce recipe and add spaghetti In the Edc? I like to feed my family of 5 and have leftovers.
-
I'm not sure about doubling the recipe as there is only 3 of us. You would probably need to cook the spaghetti in the TMX first or last and add it to the sauce. I'd probably cook the sauce first and put it in a casserole or thermoserver if you have that too and then do the spaghetti.
-
I understand your frustration especially after spending time on this forum. Everyone is so sincere, honest and ever so helpful. I spent the 2 weeks of the Qld school hols either getting to know my TMX (which arrived the 1st day of hols) or asking mundane questions of the 'pros' on this form.
Good luck with your jouney to ownership.
Cheers

Actually, I have always wondered about doubling the ragu recipe. Has anyone out there doubled it?? My family like this recipe too, especially in lasagnes, but I do add more herbs, as they are seriously lacking in the recipe.
-
No-one seems to be getting back on the answer to this one and as I haven't doubled it myself I can't speak from experience but one batch spits and splutters quite a lot so I imagine if you tried to get double quantity in there it would be erupting like Mt Vesuvius. How about trying 1.5 times the quantity and see how you go.
-
Thanks for everyones replys. I decided not to double the recipe for spaghetti bolognaise as i didnt want to make a huge mess if it splattered everywhere, but because it didnt take long at all, i made chilli con carne as well. The chilli was brilliant!
Next i made a recipe from the forum i think......it was penne pasta (cooked on the stove) with a cheese, bacon and chicken sauce, then put in the oven with cheese on the top. i served it with a salad and got lots of good comments from the boys.
Today i have made the vegetable stock concentrate and have frozen it in ice block trays and when they are frozen i'll put them into snap lock bags.
I am having a lot of fun with it, the next thing i want to tackle is things to put in the kids lunchboxes (that they will eat, not throw away) If anyone can enlighten me i will be eternally grateful.
Julia

You are going great guns hools003. In regard to the vegie stock concentrate, if you used the amount of salt in the recipe you will find the cubes will not set hard. I had the same intention as you but ended up leaving them in the ice-cube tray and just removing one lot each time I wanted a tablespoonful with a spoon (still softish). The salt prevents it from freezing. You may have to say goodbye to your ice cube trays for a while :D :D
-
You are certainly making good use of your Mum & Dad's TM hools003.Is your DH won over yet?You will be a real veteran in the TM cooking by September.I bet your parents will be impressed. ;)
-
Selling stuff on eBay is a great suggestion - I'm in Perth and I can tell you furniture does well on ebay. I paid for mine by saving shopping money, putting whatever I could into a separate account till I had enough. Originally I was saving for a holiday in Bali, but after going to a demo, Bali went on the back burner (pun intended!).
As for doubling the recipe, I make bolognaise sauce in industrial (well almost) quantities as we eat so much of it, so still do it on the stove but use the thermomix to do all the chopping and make the pasta sauce from fresh ingredients. Just made a vat of it this afternoon.
Hope your Mum is coping without it!!!
cheers

Regardling lunchbox ideas, check out this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2805.0)thread. Lot's of great ideas that should inspire you.
-
Cottchick I agree about furniture on ebay here. My SIL sold a heap of stuff that I called junk (and so did she) on ebay and got reasonable prices for it. She was thrilled, much better than a trip to the tip.
I had a laugh re the 'vat' of bolognaise.
-
Thanks JudyDawn, i only used half the salt in the veg stock, but it still didnt freeze properly. Yes, i have lost my ice block trays for a while.
Cornish cream, i'm not sure if hubby is won over yet because i've only just started using it again. My son has been in hospital for the past 2 weeks so i've been back and forth to the hospital and everyone else had to fend for themselves!! He's home now so its back to normal.
Ive made a soup today and the too easy choc cake (which really is so easy). Im just going to have a look to see what i can make for dinner!
My Mum and Dad come home in just under 2 weeks and then they are moving house so i reckon i've still got another 3-4 weeks up my sleeve!!!
;D

after seeing a demo it took me and my DH around 6months to decide that dipping into our "baby savings fund" would be a great idea. (the TM will benefit the family anyway!) so we did and I was so excited!!
I think you just need to work out what you feel comfortable paying and go with that. Try not to do something you will regret later!! Good luck ;D
-
Hope you son is doing OK hools003. Make the most of the TMX before your parents want it back, stock up the fridge with cakes etc. The last lot of vegie stock concentrate I made, I put some in a small jar and kept in the fridge and the rest I froze in a ziplock bag as I can just scoop out a tablespoon or whatever at a time when I need it.
-
So sorry to hear that your son has been in hospital hools003.I'm sure your TM cooking will add to a speedy recovery for him. It's good news that you will have the TM for a few extra weeks while your parents move house.Fingers crossed that your DH will be won over by wonderful cooking in the next few weeks. ;)
-
Hi everyone,
Well, hopefully tomorrow or Friday, my new thermomix is being delivered!!! Guess who is a little over excited??? I really cant wait and am already thinking of all the yummy things to make. I really missed my mums thermomix when i gave it back after they got home from their holiday. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, Mum and Dad came over with an envelope and handed it to us. There was enough for a thermomix and a lilttle bit more!!! I have got the best parents in the world!!
I get the Indian cookbook too, which is a bonus! Can anyone recommend any other cookbooks? I believe the vegetarian one is good too!
Sooooooooooooooooooooo happy ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

What wonderful parents to give you the means to buy the TM that you have wanted for so long. What are you going to make first? The cookbook, Meat on the Menu gets good reviews on here.I've just bought it, as it's available here now.I do like the Indian Cookbook, I have made quite a few things from the book.I get a lot of pleasure from cooking the recipes from the forum, there are great cooks on here who have posted wonderful recipes. :)
-
What lovely parents you have, you lucky lady. I hope you have lots of fun with the TMX. I can understand your excitement.
-
Thats great news Julia. I would happily buy my boys a TMX if they wanted one when they move out. I know it's a good investment in their future health.
I quite like the Budget Busters book. I haven't actually made a lot from it but it's had some good reviews and i have several recipes on my "to do" list. The $4 mud cakes is great and I made the cinnamon icecream yesterday (tasted pretty good) and will serve it tonight with an apple crumble. Really love the Indian book & also the Meat on the Menu but the forum is the place i find myself turning to for inspiration. The recipes on here are sensational and they "work"
-
Congrats -I agree that the Indian is good too
-
Hi Julia
That is sooo lovely of your parents to buy you a thermomix. I'm brand spanking new to this forum but I've been reading it for about six weeks since I saw my first demo. I'm happy to report that I too will become a new Perth Thermomix owner on Saturday evening at 7pm!! Cant wait til its delivered and I'm already thinking of all the things I can make in it!!!
Sooo excited. ;D
-
Thank you everyone for your replies....well todays the day!!! only 1 & half hours to wait!
I think my consultant is bringing a few books for me to have a look at, but ill probably just stick with the edc and indian for the moment. I was also thinking about the lunchbox one. I'm always stuck for ideas for lunchboxes, but my boys all like different things and 2 of them cant take anything with nuts in!
Hope everyone going to the Perth get together is having fun and lots of pics are taken. It would be good to put faces to names.

Hi Julia,
Congratulations on your own TMix! :)
-
What great news Julia. Your parents obviously realised you would feel the loss when you had to give them their TMX back and it was a wonderful thing they did for you.
-
i love hearing how the TMs have been gifted from such lovely generous people.
-
I am so happy with my new TM!!! I made a choc weetbix slice with my 10year old son on Friday which my consultant helped me to convert. It turned out great!! We had to go to a party in narrogin and stay the night on Sat and I was thinking I should be playing with my new toy!! Anyway we got home this arvo and I made banana smoothies for the boys. Dinner tonight was fantastic!! I made the cashew chicken from the Indian cookbook. I did rice as well and while the rice was cooking, I used the varoma. I put brocolli in the bottom of the varoma and on the tray I put cubes of chicken that I had marinated in oyster sauce as I didn't think my 6yr old would eat the curry. DH had a second helping and has some to take for lunch tomorrow! I think he was quite impressed and it was made from scratch. We also made porridge Saturday morning. Ho hum what to make tomorrow???
-
It sounds like you are having fun. ;)
