Perthie needs a thermomix....now!!
« on: April 14, 2010, 07:21:58 am »
Hi there everyone,  :)

I haven't got a thermomix yet, but desperately want and need one! My Mum has had hers for 3 years and since going to her demo, i have been sold.... its just convincing my partner! I'm sure that when i have a demo, he will be too.

I'm trying to work out how would be the best way to pay. Not sure whether we can afford to do the credit card, or to go with the payment for a year.

I keep looking on this forum, reading everyones raves and am so jealous because i know how much i will use it.  I have 3 hungry kids to feed (all boys) and im sure a thermomix would be a most welcome addition to my busy kitchen!

Anyway, just thought i'd say hi and hopefully soon i will be able to be one of you and tell you what i've been making!!

Julia

Welcome Julia!  I hope you can join us soon.  It's certainly a fantastic help in feeding the kids.

I did the three monthly payment plan which spread it a little, and only cost approx $50 more.  Over a year I think is quite expensive.  But however you can do it, as long as it works for you.

I've noticed that even when I get home extra late, with a little planning I don't have to resort to take away.  Previously it was a given on those nights.  So that's $20-$30 a week that we're saving, let alone the health benefits.

Welcome Julia!

You are correct about feeding the boys... I have 3.. and a diva as well. ;)

TiM is my favourite addition to the kitchen and is used constantly... can't imagine being without him now!

Hope you can make it happen soon!  ;D

Hey Julia,

I've been there, done that, so I know how you feel.

I'm sorry but I'm not a person to ask about buy-now/pay-later. I firmly believe that (apart from things like houses and maybe cars) if you don't have the money already, or won't have it by next payday, you should wait. I hate paying interest and fees to anyone, but that's just me. Luckily I'm currently in an Ok position where we can save up for things fairly quickly if needs be. Not everyone is in my situation unfortunately.

It's really up to how long you can hold out. The 3 credit card payments is probably the middle of the road option between paying the most fees and getting it the soonest, as long as you can pay your credit card off. I haven't had mine long enough to tell if there are savings to offset the costs, but I'm assuming there will be. So you can factor that in too, if anyone has some hard figures.

Do you have a blender at the moment? Youc an alwasy build up the "justification" points by trying to use it to make stuff. I found the more I swore at it, the better I felt about the Bimby purchase :)

Welcome Julia.  I know just how you feel. Once you have made the decision and bought it I found I didn't feel bad about the price at all. It is worth it. Even though we are retired I think I would replace  mine if something happened to it.
Perhaps try Russell's suggestion-try things in the blender. Hope you can have your demo soon. Guys seem to love it once they've seen what it can do.

Julia, I feel for you - reading this forum with all of us Thermomix-loving-addicts chatting away amongst ourselves daily and you standing on the outside looking in.  Well, you have taken the first step by joining us on the forum and if it was up to us, you would have your TMX tomorrow.  Can you borrow Mum's for a few days to show DH just how much you would use it?  Just an idea. Can't help you out with the finance bit unfortunately.  Hope you work something out real soon.

Hi Julia and welcome.
I agree with rainbow, start thinking that it will happen and it will!

I think Judy's idea is a good one too. See if Mum will let you have it for a week. The family will hate it when you have to give it back!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Especially if you do a bit of planning before hand and make sure that everything that you make is wow and yum!

Gr8 idea JD and as Cookie1 said- you can plan around what your partner likes. Question is- can your mum part with it for a few days or a week? As we all know its a BIG ask  ;D ;D

Hi again, and thanks for everyones welcome and encouragement.
It seems to be that i cant stop thinking about thermomix!! It's in my head and think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a demo.
I've been thinking, :-)) and told the DH that because i've got some work coming up, that i can put that towards my new toy!  He said "oh i thought we would put that towards the new paving!!!" Yeah right, i don't think so. Then i started saying all the yummy things i could make and he just rolls his eyes, ha ha  :-))

Hi Julie,
I know how you feel. My DH had me wait, lurking on this forum, getting all excited and trying to tell myself that I didn't "need" a TM. I am currently at my Mum's and made the Chickpea Choc Chip cookies without my TM and I didn't enjoy it. Don't know how I got away without it. A blender just doesn't cut it anymore. Hope you can afford it sooner than later. Look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

Hi Julia.
I know how you feel when you say you are thinking about a TMX all the time, although it took me about 6 months to get around to purchasing one - I was lucky that I had a bit of a cash payout from when I resigned from my job to become a full time Mum.  I really wish I had heard of them 4 years ago when I had my first baby.   I got my DH to see it in action before I bought mine too, they seem to like the mechanical side of things and the speeds it can do!
I absolutely love it and have since become a consultant.  If you would like I can come and do an obligation free demo for you and your DH or you can PM me and I can talk over the payment options with you.
