1. Weigh the oats into the TM bowl
2. Weigh and add milk, cinnamon or nutmeg and sugar

Tips/Hints:
Preparation time: 2 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Ready in: 7 minutes
The porridge will seem thin as you pour it out into your dish but trust me and wait just one minute and it magically thickens to a creamy similar to rice pudding (not glutinous) texture. It has not stuck on the TM bowl but it is best to wash the TM bowl whilst your porridge thickens so as to prevent it from continuing to cook on the bottom.

You remind me of me Hally when I first found this forum. I wanted to try everything and anything and had never baked as much in my life. Always loved home made cakes but they were a real treat in this house and only for visitors. I try not to eat too much of what I bake now - probably why the freezer is always full :-)) You will settle down and adjust your eating habits eventually but at least you have DS, his friends and DH to share them with - my DH rarely eats cake or biscuits. All bad things in moderation is the secret I think - let others eat the bulk of it. With all the exercise you do, it has to negate some of the calories surely?
-
Jd just saw this post. You would think so.... All that exercise....
I proably exgerate a bit with the weight gain, but kgs have gone up. I am certainly not overweight, used to be a little underweight but that was so hard to maintain and was hungry 100% of the time. That was also pre ds !!
I love my lfe, i love mybfood and i love a good glass of wine...
Just add another 15 mins to the treadie. I walk continually up a steep hill, but i have calves (not cow ones LOL) to die forvand i wear high heels twice a year. Its all that incline work

Thanks for sharing this recipe...perfect every time :D
I'm enjoying mine with a few chopped dates in it and loving every mouthful

Hi hepiwhanau, I am glad you found this recipe useful. It is often the most basic that are the most used. My porridge today was lovely. I chopped and cooked a dessert apple with a tablespoon of water added for 2 mins and set it aside whilst I made the porridge and put the apple on top. There are many ways to enjoy porridge arn't there?

is the *: easy to clean? i have only made porridge once and that was enough for me i found it a pain to clean ;D

Accuracy of the ingredients and the timing are everything to prevent it sticking in the TMX bowl. I find it important to wash the bowl or at least rinse it whilst you wait the minute for the porridge to thicken in the dish.

i will give it ago tomorrowmornig its cold agian in syd >:(

Another nice addition is to chop a banana into the mixture before cooking it. I read about this on the BBC Good Food site and it really is yummy, especially with the cinnamon.

Can I substitute water for milk? I use a saucepan since the one time I made it it was hard to clean the tmx

Thanks Dot will give it a go once it cools down a bit here - 39C tomorrow!!!!

You certainly can use water instead of milk but IMHO it doesn't taste as good. I use half milk and half water. And the best way to stop it sticking is to run the machine at speed 3 when cooking it. ;) ;)

My middle son loves porridge but I rarely make it. My preference is for the steel cut oats cooked in a tiny crock pot over night. With the lice of modern breakfast cereals making porridge easily is very appealing :)

On this sunny but frosty birthday morning, porridge is an appealing breakfast. I am careful to stick to the timings and instructions of my porridge, as given in Porridge for 1 ...or more (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6956.0) and do not get any burned bottom on my TM Jug. I know that I can cook the easy porridge sachets in the microwave in 2.2 mins but they are laced with sugar and whatever else they choose to add.
-
Happy Birthday DD, hope you are having a nice day.
-
Thanks DD for the great recipe - sounds just perfect for me! Many happy returns!! Hope you have a wonderful day (actually, in my book, birthday celebrations should last for at least a month!) :D :D

Happy Birthday DD. :)

I'm sorry, but this was a disaster for me this morning. :(
I made it in my Thermo Chef and mixed it on speed 1 using the butterfly attachment.
It burnt on the bottom of my jug, was really runny and the oats were undercooked.
I did double the recipe and used generic oats, so maybe I need to increase the speed and cooking time.
-
ello Emerald-Sue,
I am so sorry that your effort was a disaster. I can't emphasize enough that accuracy of the ingredients and the timing are everything to prevent it sticking in the TMX bowl. Mine does end up cooked but looking runny but then when you pour it into a bowl, it thickens by itself. I tend to use semi-skimmed milk and I never use this recipe for more than one portion.
-
Hi EmeraldSue, as I understand it the thermochef is based on the TM21 technology. Porridge and scrambled eggs always 'caught' on the bottom of the TM21 - that's one of the improvements in the TM31 - so that will probably be your problem
It might be worth upping the speed and see if that works for you. Try speed 3 or even 3.5. It will change the texture a bit but may well solve the problem.
On the cleaning front, cover the blades with WARM water and a squirt of washing up liquid. Clean for 2 mins at 60 degrees speed 8. That solved things for the TM21 so will probably work for you too.
-
Thanks for your responses.
I was in a hurry this morning and wasn't thinking straight. I usually up the speed for custards and sauces, so should have automatically increased the speed.
Thanks too, for the cleaning hint. I put some bi carb and white vinegar in it and left it until dinner time. It did come off, but I had to scrub it a little.

Hi there from a complete newbie! We got our TM two days ago...
I've made this porridge twice now. First time, I forgot to put the MC on :-)) so when it reached the end of the time it hadn't got to the right temperature and it was uncooked and totally runny. So I replaced the MC, then cooked it for another two minutes. End result, once rested in a bowl was the creamiest porridge ever! Sadly there were also some burn marks on the bottom, which I successfully removed using bicarb & vinegar.
Take two: used half milk, half water to avoid scorching. Everything else by the recipe. Even after sitting, the porridge was too liquid for my taste, but did taste nice.
Tomorrow: try again using the recipe (and TM) exactly as intended?
-
I'd up the speed to 3 as Dot said in a later posting of hers alioc. Amy's winter banana smoothie (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=9687.0) has become my favourite porridge recipe of late.
-
The winter banana smoothie sounds good!
I tried again this morning. Pushing the speed up to 2.5 worked well and there was no sticking or scorching. I do think, however, that I will experiment with cooking it for 6 minutes as it is still runnier than I like.
Thanks for your help.
