Has anyone else noticed that we seem to have lost (nearly) all of our male contributors recently (I initially put the word 'members' in there instead of contributors but thought that was a bit provocative!)?
Do you remember Leesmac78 and his partner, Ed? Then there was Dean, Thermomixer, Tarasis and several others. I think Dashingden, and occasionally Bluesed, are the only guys that post these days. It's a shame to lose the others and I hope they come back again.
-
Marina, yes your right. Where are they all?!
H :)
-
There was also TM Ted. Think he was going to become a consultant if my memory serves me.
-
Missing In Action so it seems. :(
I hope they come back too.
Robyn
-
Maybe us girls scared them off ;D It's nice to hear from the guys though.
-
Kent has been commenting recently.
-
I love hearing from the boys- nothing better than a guy whipping up all of those delicious meals in a TM!!!!
-
Ive noticed a number of members no longer posting.. :((
-
Yes your right. Lots of members lost in action. Where have you all gone? We not that scary are we :)
-
bah men ... no staying power lol
(and before you men jump down my throat I am surrounded by them on a ration of 5 males to 2 females in this house!!)
-
I was wondering where Lee and Ed had got too. The last we heard they were winging their way to Aus. Must say, I do miss his humorous stories. And of course, Thermomixer. He is sorely missed.
Come back guys. We miss you.
-

lol :D
We are 4 males to 3 females in this house.
-
Maybe some of us ladies should start growing beards and leaving the toilet seat up and leaving dirty socks inside out on the floor to try and compensate for the lack of manliness... ???
-
I wonder what happened to Russell. ??? he was starting the failsafe diet and bought the TM to help.
-
I am still hanging around. Probably a sad indictment on my lack of friends/social life. I noticed from reading some earlier posts that their seemed to be more men posting than their are atm.
-
Not an indictment at all Dashingden. - actually a very clever way to keep in touch with a lot of people who have similar interests without having the problem of set meeting times or long travel. I've never been keen on forums before this one but the foodie/Thermomix talk and generosity of spirit shown by forum members has me hooked. There are over 6000 members but just a fraction regularly post. Hope the others get what they need from the forum regardless!
-
Maybe the moderators could send out a friendly we miss you call to the members?
-
This is the only forum I am on. Its a great way to chat to people who understand the need to cook food & cook it well.
My friends think I am crazy spending so mch time in the kitchen, its what I enjoy, its a hobby and a lot cheaper than some hobbies. We get to eat great food & I get lots of help when needed, a huge BONUS have met and will meet some lovely caring people. :)
H :)
-
Maybe Dashingden is too much competition for the men ;D
-
DG it is more likely because all I do is work, train and occasionally race. It doesn't help that I am very calorie conscious and don't waste many calories on alcohol.
I competed in the Busselton Ironman70.3 Triathlon on the weekend. Now I am 'resting' before I begin training for the CIiy to Surf Marathon.

We're still here darlings, keeping a beady eye on you ladies!!
-
I suspect there are many lurkers to this forum, both female and male out there. I'm sure many of the men registered on this forum are as obsessive as we are about cooking and food in general but obviously don't feel the need necessarily to contribute posts to forums.
-
l had thought the same thing and had wondered my self.
how tarasis and his family is going
and what has been happening in lee and ed life lately
they did have some funny story's to share with us
l shore do hope that all the men come back they are missed
-
I lurk quite a bit and post occasionally - I am a female but live in a mans world - sometimes I struggle to find content amongst small talk - no offence intended - but men do not do small talk and I think they are put off by the enormous amounts of small talk. Men like instant gratification - don't we girls all know that? They go to a forum for info not small talk. ;D ;D ;D
-
Thanks for noticing Cecilia :)
I post a little bit, I don't actually have a TMX as yet, but will be getting one around mid-July when I train to be a consultant.
I tend to lurk and read unless I have something to contribute.
-
Nothing wrong with lurking but no harm in contributing posts either- this is such a friendly and informative forum , any contribution is gratefully accepted. I would suggest that if someone has registered for a forum it implies that they should at least contribute some posts, otherwise if someone just needs recipes etc, you can surf the net for those.

I noticed Ed was browsing this afternoon so I quickly sent him a pm and asked if they were OK. He replied that work for both of them has been really busy but they are both well.
-
Good to hear that Ed and Lee are well, Judy, and great work on all your training, Dashingden.
I've been missing the blokes too, but can't complain when I'm lurking more than posting myself these days (reports, ugghh!).

Hi my name is Frans and i do read this forum everyday. According to the statistics of this forum since i became a member i have notched up 7 days and 8 hours and 19 minutes. I have a tm 31 for 2 years now I also have as many of you members a kenwood mixer 2 pressure cookers 4 slow cookers different sizes ,300 cook books. I also have the most beautiful bbq called the KOMODO KAMADO a tiled cooker weighing about 300 kilos it is a macnificent bbq a bit like the thermomix of the bbq's. I do not contribute much because i find it difficult to communicate in this format. frans

Welcome to the forum Frans, there are plenty of members out there who visit the forum regularly buy don't post. But it is nice to say hello and introduce your self. I like the sound of your BBQ, I'm guessing you use that quiet a bit.
-
Hi Frans, nothing wrong with your communication skills - I am able to read you loud and clear. You mentioned Filipino recipes in an earlier posting - have you got anything quick and easy you would like to share with us?
-
Hi Frans, we have similar tastes. I have had my TMX for 2 years , about 300 cooking books, 2 kenwoods, 2 slow cookers, 2 BBQ , but not as smart as yours. No pressure cookers. Please drop in again. ;D
-
Good to hear that Ed and Lee are still with us when they get the time - thanks for following up with them, Judy. Hope we will hear from them again one day.
-
I've also emailed Ted and Tarasis (Rob) to see how they both are so will report back if I hear from either of them.
-
Hi Judy, thank you for your kind words. Here is a Filipino recipe that I have made a few times now and really enjoy .This is there national dish
sort of. there are many different recipes on the net. You can add whatever you prefere. there are also pork recipes or a combination of both chicken and pork. the base is soy and vinegar.
CHICKEN ADOBO:
one chicken cut up into serving pieces or chicken pieces
1/2 cup soy
3/4 cup white vinegar
Garlick as much as you would like, suggestion is one or two heads
bay leaves
peppercorns up to you.
salt to taste, careful here because of the soy.
procedure:
1/ place chicken, soy, vinegar, garlick, bay leaves and peppercorns in the pot and bring to the boil.
reduce the heat and simmer 30 min. you may want to add some water.
remove the chicken and slowly fry in a separate pot IE frying pan.
let the sauce in the pot boil until reduced by half. give and take.
return the chicken to the sauce ad season according to you liking. and serve. I like it with potatoes ,you may prefere rice and veggies.
you may be able to adapt to the thermomix I have not done it yet. Frans
-
Thanks frans - we actually have Chicken Adobo here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1989.0) on the forum and I have done it a couple of times, delicious.
-
I too have been wondering how Lee and Ed were going. You always have your finger on the pulse JD.

Us blokes need to stick together Frans. I love the sound of the BBQ it sounds like my kind of appliance. I used to have a wood fired pizza oven before I shifted house and would like to build another one. I spent time in the Philippines about 30 years ago. Never had chicken Adobo that I can remember, I will have to give it a try. I do rememeber having a really delicious noodle dish in the PI but can't remember the name of it.

Hi guys I'm around of sorts.
As I mentioned to Judy in another thread my beginning of year got screwed around majorly. Basically I spent the week post Christmas in hospital (boxing day till New Year's Eve) for reasons they couldn't quite determine but I was in a lot of pain. The outcome was they felt my spleen was too big and should come out.
So early January I'm getting various vaccinations done as a pre-prep and then I got I'll again. I was incredibly tired, finding it slow to walk and stuff, so off to the Doctor who checked my blood and spleen and felt that it needed to come out now. It was good timing as my wife's parents had just arrived for a two week trip, so they got the kids and I was taken into hospital. There they did a CT scan (I think) and discovered that as well as they spleen I had pneumonia. This meant that they couldn't take the spleen out till the pneumonia had been dealt with first. Cue basically 3 more weeks in hospital. First two dealing with pneumonia and then Op and recovery time. (Spleen was 20cm and weight 680kg). Once home I wasn't supposed to do much of anything for 6 weeks, so I wasn't even really cooking during that time.
So that gets me to Mid March, life is returning to normal though it still hurts a bit where the scar was (16 lovely staples) when I did start cooking again it was mostly staples and for whatever reason fell away from here. Then I got involved in writing a book (and now debating leaving it as struggling time wise), July I made a bunch of things in the Thermomix (notably for my wife's birthday where I cooked for her and 7 of her friends various Thermomix curry dishes and lemon sorbet and fizzy lemonade), August we were on holiday in Northern Ireland and then we got to September.
Amusingly I came back to the forum looking for a byriani recipe and found a post from me from last year :)
I'm not using the Thermomix anywhere near as much as last year but I expect it will increase again (heck I've got more tikka paste to make),
I am daily making soda farls (250g flour, 1tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt, 230g buttermilk, gently stirred together to form dough, then cooked on a low heat in a heavy frying pan / flat griddle (floured) for 10 minutes each side) which is a Northern Irish bread for me and the kids to eat, been forever since I used the TMX for bread or rolls..
Sorry I disappeared, and its kinda odd that many of the men vanished. Maybe we men are just bad at sticking too things :)

Soups are yum & healthy, as long as they are not eaten with 1/2 a fresh loaf & lashings of TM butter ;D
