hello, Im thinking of recipes for christmas gifts and this is one I have been saving for the occasion!. Just a question regarding packaging, how do others package it up to show it off to the max? cello bags? does it sit ok on top of each other? or does it need to be flat in a single layer? Dont want it to go all squishy and melty. thanks for the lovely recipe. Helen

Hello, I have just cut up a chicken for a casserole for the first time ever (usually buy it cut up!) Needless to say I didnt do a good job and have a meaty carcass leftover! What can I do with it, too nice to throw out! A lovely soup recipe would be great, failing that, stock? Any pointers gratefully recieved! Helen

Its me again on about the plum paste. I have made several batches now and just not that happy with the result... too rubbery. I have managed to salvage the situation by putting it back in the tmx and adding water etc, it is not quite as good however as it becomes a little too soft. My friend is dropping off a bucket of plums tomorrow she wants me to make her some, but Im wondering should I leave the pectin out? When I made it stove top I left the stones in, as they were too hard to get out, and it set perfectly. I then removed the stones at the end. I might add juice of another lemon, to give the extra pectin? I would appreciate any advice. cheers helen

JD when you say zest of 1 lemon, do you actually use a zester or do you peel the lemon and let the tmx chop it up? I feel like making some custard!! Helen

This may well be a very dumb question. I have not established yet whether the MC should be on or off for cooking, it often does not say, so should I assume if it doesnt say leave it on? Some recipes are specific but I am not sure of the best way to go with this. Obviously some recipes need it there to catch the spray, but other things I dont know?? Also, when it says 'with basket in place to catch spits' does that mean steamer basket or the little round basket on top? I have been using the steamer basket without the lid. thanks in advance! My first thermomix dinner was thai red chicken curry, tonight I substituted green curry paste but followed the same recipe from the EDC - it was simply delicious! I used my favourite green curry paste, I would not bother making it, it is so nice! What struck us both times was the velvety texture of the curry sauce, it is really lovely.
This is a great dish and one I will be making exclusively in the thermy now, I always made it stovetop. I love my thermomix SO MUCH! I have also made two batches of plum paste today.. had to tweak a bit to get the consistency just right

I made this as my first meal and it was really delicious. I did not have the ingredients to make the paste on hand, so I used the Ayam brand which tasted amazing. The sauce was a very lovely consistency (velvety and perfectly combined). I used the same amount I would have used on the stove top (a couple of desertspoons full). Just right. It fed four adults well. Will definitely be making it again. I followed the recipe to the letter, being my first effort !

Well, today I think I might have made the first mess up since I got my darling at Christmas. I made a beetroot chutney from the UK website I think it was, but it is too 'thin' and too much liquid. It said it might thicken on cooling but it hasnt as yet. Do you think I should put it back in the TM and add some cornflour and reheat? would that work? It tastes delicious, but it would not be able to be used on a sandwich etc and it would be a shame to waste it. Any of your thoughts would be most appreciated! Helen

hello all Im enjoying my thermomix journey so far and have made some really lovely things from this forum. My 'to do' list is sooooo long though. It is hilarious here in my house, hubby got a new Weber bbq and I have my foodie purist son home, so we are all arguing over who is going to cook tonight... and what method! Who would have thought?
Now, to my post. I make the Bill Granger Portugese tarts regularly, and note that some of you do too, has anyone converted the recipe? I love it so much, but if not, will try the one from the mwoc book. Picture does not do them justiice, custard looks a little 'transparent' happy day helen

Well, my thermomix arrived today and after a demonstration, im off and running. Did a quick hummus for pre dinner drinks, then whipped up the most amazing thai red chicken curry, straight out of the EDC book, only used bought paste instead of making my own. it was the best one any of us had had, the boys (26, 24 and hubby) loved it. Raved. Oh how happy am I ! could not believe how easy it all was, and so quick. I can see a whole new phase of life coming up for me in the kitchen! x Helen
