Breakfast / Re: DIY Super Quick Quick Oats Sachets
« on: September 09, 2014, 08:24:57 am »
This is great thanks, I would never have thought to do this. I feel like I spend a fortune on the sachets that often only get half eaten by the kids, this looks much more economical.

I absolutely love spinach and ricotta pasties so was keen to give these a try. The taste of the filling was spot on and much less salty than the store bought ones. I did have trouble making the square shapes pictured in the recipe book as I obviously didn't seal and twist the top of the pastry properly and they burst open while cooking. For the remaining batches I just made them in the shape of a sausage roll which was much easier and froze them uncooked. My kids weren't keen on them though (too much green spinach!) but they will do nicely as weekend lunches for my husband and I. Rating: 5/5.

After letting this book sit on the shelf for 3 months, I finally decided to use it and made the steamed fish with rice and asparagus. I made it exactly to the recipe and the family found it quite tasty, no complex flavours but nice and simple - a good alternative to the many steamed fish recipes that have asian flavours.

Although this recipe takes quite a long time to prepare from start to finish, we found it delicious and will definitely make it again. I used less rice (300g) and still had leftovers. The only thing that made me a little uncomfortable was that although the chicken was cooked well in the end with the vegetables, it was not cooked at the stage where the rice is ready to take out so I thought that raw chicken juices could have been in the rice.

This is my favorite recipe from Full Steam Ahead, it is very tasty and a good option for a "non-meat" meal. My kids love it (the cheesy sauce wins them over), although they don't like the look of the eggplant so I mash it up on their plate before serving so they don't notice it.

Made this tonight and it was delicious, no leftovers to be seen!

This is a nice easy recipe but we found it not at all spicy after removing the seeds from the chillies as the recipe instructs, next time will leave them in.

Hard to describe but I googled it and people describe them as tasting like a cross between lima beans and green peas. I really like the texture of them and half the fun is popping them out of the shell with your teeth. Great healthy snack.

I bought a pack of frozen edamame beans from an Asian grocery store and followed the recipe as stated. We had them as a side dish to the miso roasted chicken (from Quick Fix in the Thermomix). They were delicious - my 4 year old especially loved them 5/5

Made the vegetarian pasties tonight and they were great, the mixture made 20 pasties in total (adults ate 2 each and kids 1 each for dinner with a salad). Although the recipe suggests to freeze the filling and make up when wanted I just prepped the whole batch at once as they will be easier to pull out the freezer that way.

Cooked these tonight, the tzatziki was delicious as were the falafel although we also had the problem of them falling apart as they were cooking. We also doubled the recipe and made about 20 balls in total.
