Chit Chat / Declutter with Thermomix!
« on: July 02, 2010, 02:55:58 pm »
I'm almost 26 weeks pregnant with our third child and so preparations have started in earnest. Thanks to Thermomix, some major decluttering has taken place. Have despatched the breadmaker, stand mixer, milkshake thingy and food processor, along with numerous cooking magazines. I love doing an op-shop drop with the car packed to the gills. Such euphoria! :D

Or they find out they are incubating no.3 :o after quite emphatically stating that '2 will do, thank you' to all and sundry and morning sickness has everything tasting like sawdust. Too ashamed to admit that Hermes was actually put in the cupboard for a while :-[ . Tonight he made me some steamed rice, so I think he still loves me. :)

Main Dishes / Re: baf65's Creamy Chicken and Vegies in the Varoma.

Made this tonight, veges a bit thin on the ground so had sweet potato, beans, peas and corn. So yummy, even the offspring were looking for seconds. Fantastic the way TM can get such great flavour from such simple ingredients. Call me backward but this was the first time I'd used the Varoma. Soo easy!! ;D ;D ;D

Ooh yes, I'm in lurve! Didn't think it was possible to feel this way about an appliance. I'm fairly passionate about my Dyson though :D

Mashed potato. Of course, old habits die hard and I forgot to weigh/measure so it turned out a bit like smooth potato soup. :) But still yummy and the boys liked it, which was the exciting bit ;D

Made these for a post-Christmas get-together and there were thumbs up all round. ;D Even made these with the same weight of white fish fillets and they were really good. A great way to use up that fish that was languishing in the freezer and is almost tasteless every other way I cook it  ;D ;D

Made this to use in trifle with rice flour instead of cornflour and it was yummo! ;D Really thick and leaves bought/custard powder custard in the shade. :D

I think the boys preferred the icing (peppermint)  :D but somewhere in amongst the leftover Christmas cake, pudding and trifle, it didn't matter very much ;D

After begging forgiveness from my TM, I think he's forgiven me :-*

...been so swept up with TM enthusiasm that you forget to put the rubber seal on the blades? :-[ Then you melt butter to make DS2 a birthday cake and don't even notice that most of it is on the bench rather than in the bowl. So when you finally get the cake out of the oven and out of the ring tin, it resembles nothing more than a small, chocolate U.F.O. DS6 then decides that perhaps it could be an alien party.

I'm sure these things only happen to me :D

Cooking was usually in the 'chore and bore' category for me. I've got chronic fatigue syndrome :( and was finding it difficult to get the energy to cook, let alone the enthusiasm. Add to that 2 small offspring whose repeated choruses of 'yuck' at whatever was put in front of them and the thought of x no. of years in the kitchen made me want to stick my head in the oven. Even DH was commenting about my ever-decreasing repertoire of meals. I read about the TM first on the simple savings site then read everything else I could find on it. I had to have one! I knew it would change my life. It has.

I used to have a very 'no-recipe, stand-back-and-throw' style, which is why things never turned out the same way twice, but cooking with the TM is more like following a chemical equation, and I love it! ;D ;D Add to that 2 little boys who are excited to see what turns up next and I have to say I am beyond thrilled. :-*

No Hermes for me this week :( Think the postie strike may have clagged things up a bit. It's going to be a  l  o  n  g weekend.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Looking forward to taking advantage of your collective TM wisdom! :D
