I made these too. Agree they were fab. Kids complained about the curry flavour though  :o

I had them the next day for lunch with salad, yoghurt and beetroot relish (also from this book??) - YUMMM.  Raved to all my colleagues.

Give them a try :)

We loved this. Such a nice flavour. I served it to 5 adults and that wasnt enough.  We were licking bowls clean. lol. Lucky we were really gathered for the Christmas pudding which was following.

I thought next time I'd add zucchini cubes to the curry similar to how it's done with the red chicken curry from the EDC.

I made these again and used the interval setting to mix in the egg and golden syrup. Worked well. Thanks for th suggestion.    Also rolled into bigger balls. They look just like the packet biscuits now.

No, the tray definitely did not fit on top.  I just threw the vegies in around the chicken and made sure all the steam vents weren't covered.

Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Hainanese Chicken Rice - taste of asia
« on: June 01, 2011, 11:56:52 am »

Recipe Name:  Hainanese Chicken Rice
Book Name: Taste of Asia (also in May newsletter from TM Aust)
Tweaking details: I made this as per the recipe. When preparing the rice I wasn't sure whether I was meant to mince the garlic/onion/ginger etc. Decided to chop roughly and leave big pieces that could be picked out. In the last 15 mins of cooking the rice, I added carrots, broccolini and later some green beans. I may have added more ginger and garlic than the recipe said to  8)
Review: Yummo. The whole family really enjoyed this. The flavours were subtly but great. The chicken was very juicy.
Score: 4.5/5

We do.  Especially in Summer when I don't want to heat the house anymore.  I've baked roasts, pizzas and desserts also.  :)

Ha ha yes both kids (4 & 6) are very interested in cooking. I don't have to peel veggies often!

They are a crunchy biscuit. It's been along time since I've had them but I think they are very much like the arnotts ginger nuts.

OK so there isn't really much for the thermomix in this but it is such a yummy biscuit I thought I'd share anyway.

I couldn't get it to knead in the TM. It's quite a dry mix so I found I needed to turn the mixture out onto the bench to knead and pull the dough together.

I did it!  Put on interval setting to incorporate the egg and syrup. And have amended the recipe below.

Ginger Nuts

300 g plain flour
225 g castor sugar
1/2 tsp bicarb soda
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch salt
2 tsp ground ginger
125 g butter
1 egg
1 tsp golden syrup

Preheat oven to 160 deg C.

Put the flour, sugar, bicarb, cinnamon, ginger and salt into the TM bowl and sift on spd 5 for a couple of seconds.

Add butter and mix on spd 8 for 5 seconds until mix is of a fine crumb consistency

Mix egg with syrup and add to TM bowl. Combine on interval setting for 30 seconds or so.

Tip onto bench top and work into a ball.

Roll into small balls and place onto greased oven trays.

Place in oven approx 15 mins.

Cool on tray.
Makes around 42.

ETA: ooops you'll be wanting a photo. These were rolled by my 6 year old. I would've got a smoother result ;)
Eta:  incorporate the egg and syrup using the interval setting. Have amended the recipe above.

Tam - really yummy. I didn't bother mixing the syrup and egg - just threw them in and mixed on interval speed for 40 secs instead of 30 secs! Next time I'll add extra ginger as we like them really gingery. Thanks!

Delightful Den - Tam I make gingernuts from another recipe that I have taken to using fresh ginger with.  I peel a 2.5-3 cm, piece of ginger and quarter it then grind it in the TM on speed 6-7 for a few seconds.  Scrape down and add remaining ingredients.  They come out really gingery.

Are there any forum members that consult in ACT?

I remember them not liking fish so I stopped calling it fish and instead said it was water chicken. They loved it but still wouldn't eat fish!!

Love it lol.  My daughter HATES rice but has 3 serves of risotto every time I cook it.  She wouldn't eat lamb  until one day she asked if it was Mary's.  I thought for a bit and with nothing to lose said yes.  She then gobbled it down.

When we eat out it's usually Asian or Indian. And the kids taste a bit of everything.  We rarely eat somewhere that does nuggets and chips but my daughter will go for a spaghetti Bol as her first choice.  My son on the other hand would go the chips meal. But then he is way less fussy than  his sister and has a good feed when we eat Asian.

Chit Chat / Re: Good new alternative to cream in cooking
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:30:03 pm »
I can help out here...  but beware the ingredients are long and complex  :o

milk, water, cream, maltodextirin (tapioca), thickener (1450, from maize), salt, vegetable gums (410, 415, 466), gelatine, emulsifier (472e), acidity regulator (339), preservative (200), starter culture, enzymes, 17% milk solids

phew.  i use yoghurt most of the time when a recipe calls for cream but have been thinking of using a combo of cream cheese and milk.  Don't make many creamy dishes so haven't tried it yet.

Chit Chat / Re: Is your thermomix gender specific and does it have a name?

Ours is gender neutral but called the 'termomixer'.   My son also likes it when we use the termomixer's hat - known to you all as the varoma! lol    :D
