I haven't eaten there actually Gert, although their reputation is excellent. There are some lovely restaurants around the Salamanca area; Rockwall http://www.rockwallbarandgrill.com.au/ Blue Eye http://www.fishfish.com.au/blue-eye/Maldini http://www.maldinirestaurant.com.au/The Quarry http://www.thequarry.com.au/Smolt - this might appeal as the menu includes lovely Tasmanian Salmon and Oysters http://www.smolt.com.au/In terms of Foodie and Wine day trips have a look at http://www.tastinghouse.com.au/page/wine_tours.html The Coal Valley is only around 20 minutes from Hobart - between Hobart and historic Richmond (which also have great local art and craft shops). The tour company will totally customise a tour for groups, and with a large group the pricing would be more competitive than what is listed ($165 pp for a tour of . Lunch can be at one of the vineyards or in Richmond. (We have a tour organised for our work Christmas function and have been able to totally program what we want) This is just one option, but as it is in close proximity to Hobart it means a day can be used fully rather than heaps of driving to get somewhere. There is also a Double Decker bus which does tours around Hobart - about an hour, with commentary on local history etc. Let me know if you would like any more information on places. Jodie

Hi All Local Hobartian here! There are tonnes of options close to Salamanca and hence close to the wharf area (where the MONA Roma Ferry departs for MONA from - there is a bus option too) with prices varying greatly. Places right in the heart of Salamanca come with a Salamanca price tag! Some options with a more affordable price tag (lets face it, the less $$$ for a bed mean more $$$ to shop!!!) are still within in a 5-8 minute stroll. Mantra on Sandy Bay road http://www.mantraonesandybayroad.com.au/This hotel is very close to Salamanca - about a 5 minute stroll through St David's Park, past the Supreme Court into Salamanca. Salamanca Inn http://www.salamancainn.com.au/This is right in the heart of Salamanca, but a slightly cheaper option that some of the others. Travelodge Macquarie http://www.travelodge.com.au/travelodge-hobart-hotel/homeThis Hotel is between the City centre and Salamanca - probably 5 minute walk to the mall and 8 or so into Salamanca. RACT Hobart Hotel http://www.ract.com.au/Pages/RACT-Hobart-apartment-hotel.aspxThis is a new acquisition by the RACT (RACV etc equivalent) They offer a 25% discount on the standard rack rate to any Australian Automobile Club members. This is in the city, so about 10minute stroll to Salamanca. The Grand Chancellor http://www.grandchancellorhotels.com/au/hobart/4This is located right opposite the wharf area. Can be a bit pricey, but they do have some good deals at times and worth a look. Aside from places like The Henry Jones Art Hotel and Somerset on the Pier which are right on the wharf area ( and have the price tag to match!!) these would be some options to investigate. Really, any hotel in the city centre would be no more than a 15 minute stroll to Salamanca. If you want any other ideas or information about things to do, places to see, let me know and I can put my "promote Tassie" hat on and list some ideas for you all. Even though I don't often post, and haven't been on the forum in some time, I would still love to meet those of you who make the trek south to our beautiful Island. Jodie

We are just finishing our backyard at the moment, adding fruit trees (already have a lovely veggie and strawberry patch) We have planted a Lemonade tree, Plum tree, Raspberry canes and have a kiwi fruit to put in aswell. We haven't bothered with a lemon as my parents live 5 minutes away and have a fabulous lemon tree. We also want to put a passionfruit in, I LOVE them, but they are soooooo expensive to buy here. If we had a warmer climate, I'd love to have sooo many more fruit trees, including a banana! Oh, we're at 42 degrees south

Just thought that i would let all Taswegian Thermie Lovers know that i have just recently come across a fantastic farm selling meat direct to the public - Conmurra Farm ( https://www.facebook.com/#!/Conmurra.Farm) conmurrafarm@bigpond.com. Although not exactly a co-op, I thought locals may be interested. The farm is on the East Tamar, and they deliver statewide (free for orders over $60). Their prices are very good, and the meat we have tried so far is superb, eg sides of lamb $75 or on special we purchased at $65 for the side, $8.50kg for skinless chicken breasts, around $9kg for premium mince. I love buying local, and cutting out all of the expensive "middle men"! They currently only have a facebook site (above) and the e-mail and phone (03 63 301 695) but are currently building a website. By the way, I have no affiliation with the farm/business, just a very happy customer spreading the word!

I first head about Thermies in mid 2009 when a few ladies were raving about them on a cloth nappy forum I was a member of. Others kept talking about how jealous they were, so I thought I'd better check it out. And so the saving began, and we bought ours in mid 2010. It was just starting to really take off here in Southern Tassie at that time. In fact, my mum also bought one about 4 months after we did, and my sister was considering buying on at AGFEST here in Tassie yesterday. Must ring and see if she did.

An interesting read, wonder what part 3 will encourage? Have no problem with other machines, and other people preferring other machines. Just not too sure about this lady's comparison. A little biased towards the HMPG, especially with her mention of the Varoma. Why, when you are spending sooo much money on a machine, would you still want to use the microwave or stove top to steam? I must admit, I was dumbfounded by her description of there being "a lot to take off to get the blades out to clean the bowl" in reference to the TMX, and going on to say that you just have to unscrew the bolt from the bottom of the blades to get them off the HMPG - mmmmmm, twist a base or unscrew a bolt? ? Just my opinions, take with a grain of salt!

I find the whole notion that Bellini owners feel this need to continually comment, on several different forums, about TMX owners feeling as though they need to justify having spent $2K when they have spent under $300, entirely ridiculous. It is simple, you get what you pay for. If they can only afford a Bellini, then go ahead and have fun learning and experimenting.
Having said that, I would be worried that there have been sooo many issues with basic things, like the recipes in the boook not working. I read on one forum a response that they received from the Bellini company in relation to the recipe failures. Their response was that they (the company) are urgently working on the recipes, and in the meantime, reduce the heat to combat the burning - nothing about cooking times which would also need to be adjusted. It is this sheer unprofessional business practice that is incredible.
We love our Thermie, and the professional reputation that comes with something that has stood the test of time - through various upgrades/adjustments etc. I don't care that there are other machines that supposedly "do all that a TMX does", because we are happy with our little man!! I just hope for the sake of those who are now Bellini owners, that the company stands up and comes good with fixing the "teething" problems, and that the machine is safe for use.

Has anyone fiddled around with a recipe for Chocolate Hot Cross Buns? My DH has made a batch with adding choc chips in place of dried fruit and they are tasty, but I was wondering about adding some cocoa powder to the dough??? Any ideas??? THANKS

After the discussion here, I went off and did some further investigating. Though not an actual Thermie owners co-op, there is a co-op, combined with a community vegie garden, which operates in Sandy Bay - on the University campus. It is called Source Wholefoods: https://www.sourcewholefoods.org.au/We went for a visit yesterday, and although a smallish operation, it is FANTASTIC. They have all of the wholegrains that I was after, spelt etc, and rapadura sugar is $6.60kg. That is the members price, and I signed up as a member which costs $20 per year, and gives a 20% discount on everything. As it is a community co-op, they rely on volunteers, so as part of the membership they askl you to comit to a couple of hours volunteering every 2 months -so not a big ask for the benefits. They stock all organic fresh produce, sourced locally where possible. The spelt grain and quinoa that I purchased is grown here in Tassie - which makes it even better. Their organic bananas were cheaper than regular bananas from the "stupimarkets" You are able to pick your vegies fresh from the garden as well. I think this is a good option, as you are able to go and purchase what you want/need when you want to, not having to do a bulk order a couple of times a year. Having a Thermie co-op specifically would be great, but in the meantime, this place is fantastic, and waaaaay cheaper than for example Eumaragh or RAW (eg Rapadura at $6.60kg at the co-op and $9.95kg at Eumaragh) Anyway, hope that helps some Taswegians!!!!!

I'd be really interested if anything gets up and running, or if anyone knows of anything else. I'm in hobart. I've found that the cheapest is Bio Distributors - online - in Sheffield. Eg, their Rapadura is around $30 for a 5kg bag, and here in Hobart at City Organics or Eumarrah it is $10kg!!!!! Anyway, if anyone has any furter ideas or info, then I guess they'll post here. Chees!
