Chit Chat / Re: ADHD children

He is a lovey boy full of hugs & i love yous which he gets back from us.

Ritalinf 20 per day, but i think he needs a top up at 2-3, but I am not hs Dr.

Yes my DS whom we adopted when he was little has Ritalin LA 20mg every day, it's a long acting medication and it does wear off at 2-3pm.  It works very well for him, without it he was just getting into trouble constantly at school and now he is getting positive feedback :)  He often says to me how much he loves school.  Our doctor has given us the option of adding some short acting Ritalin at 3pm if we wish to but we don't do this currently, although we might in the future if his homework load increases.   His ADHD is quite severe and I'm really not too sure if he is going to grow out of it.  Fortunately he is a lovely sook and people are drawn to his exuberance.  I just feel sad for him that he has these struggles but relieved that he is being helped with medication and has a wonderful school.

For the sleep, I would look into melatonin drops which has to be be obtained on prescription in Australia but other countries can just buy it at their pharmacy.  It is very expensive since it has to be prepared by a compounding pharmacy but works a treat.  It is a natural hormone that our bodies make for sleep.

The sleep issues and excitability in the early evening are often caused by the medication leaving the system - the steep plunge back to the ADHD self which leaves them unable to settle.  Some people address this with the extra dose in the afternoon.

Otherwise very strong routine, same bedtime each night, calm down in a nice warm bath, stories - all these help.

Thanks for the comments so far  :)

Is it easy to purchase the UK cookbook?  UK Ebay I suppose?

Hi all,

I only have the EDC cookbook, which I love and wish to get some more books.  I had a look on the TMX website but am finding it hard to decide which ones to select.

We are a family of 4, I work and I am really after EDC type recipes that are both tasty but at the same time easy to prepare.  Which of the books come closer to meeting those needs?

Many thanks for any opinions and guidance  :)

Thanks for the responses everyone!  :)  Dang it, my son already wrecked the box using it as his "kennel".  I will try and contact HQ and see if they can sell me one direct.  $80 is not too bad, I thought it would be more because of how much they are selling on ebay.

Hi all,

I'm not that enthused about paying over $100 for a thermomix bag.  I'm just wondering if any members have developed their own system or method for transporting the thermomix in the car for holidays etc?

Doe the thermie have to lie on its side to protect the scales?  If I padded the thermie in bubble wrap and put it inside a reasonably snug plastic box would that do the job do you think?

Thanks for any suggestions and or comments.

Thanks all!  :)

I had heard about the EDC cookbook from various posts on the internet and it's good to hear that it comes with the package.  Will check the index for reviews and tweaks :)

Hi all,

I'm from Sydney and plan on ordering a thermie this month.  I'm a mother to two children and work 3 days a week.  I love to cook and am anxious to keep our food healthy in the face of a more busy lifestyle this year.  I love the concept of being able to cook from scratch but fast.  I also want to entertain friends for dinner as well.

Looking forward to learning more from you.

Will there be a basic cookbook in the thermie package?
