Are you kidding?? What is the issue - $8.49?? It is not an alternative to this forum or even to the MWOC cookbook... it’s moving into a whole new medium –how innovative! I'm not one of those people who can memorise recipes so I loovve being able to whip out my phone at the supermarket and check out all the ingredients needed for a certain dish. The features are great - you can plan a whole week’s menu and put together a shopping list, tick off the ingredients you already have in the kitchen, email that list (to your husband!) make notes on each recipe, watch videos of many being made – it is soo cool!
I’m really surprised at the bitterness – if it wasn’t for the hard work, dedication and passion of the company in Australia we wouldn’t be able to even buy the machine here... you’d have to import it from overseas with no customer service and all the cost and drama that would involve....
If you don’t like the fact that you have to have a demo (wow – what a hassle; invite a couple of friends to see this machine you’ve been raving to them about - have someone else cook your dinner?) to access some books - there are HEAPS of other books you can buy from head office. The books that are exclusively available through hosting a demo are there to help consultants grow their business...way to show support for your fellow Thermomix lovers who love it soo much they turned it into a business...
Would you rather just be able to go into Harvey Norman or Myer and buy your box and be done with it. Well buy a Thermochef then; they’re made in China and don’t have any iPhone apps or exclusive host only cookbooks... no cooking classes or after sales service either. Of course they probably won’t be around in a year or 2, but no matter, some other cheap replacement will probably pop up; then you can buy that!

I found out at the last minute (well 4 hours prior) to presenting a TM coking class that I had to make the Torta Caprese – the flourless chocolate cake... as someone who does not eat sugar I do not bake, never have... so with only a few hours to go I followed the recipe to the letter and what turned out was so professional looking I could imagine it for sale in a bakers for $40! I was blown away and very proud! I rather raved about it to my audience at the class! That was my pivotal moment!

For me, as I already pretty much cooked from scratch the savings are minimal, that is unless I count my time in dollars... which I do! So I save probably ½ -1 hour every day... for me that equates to around $350-$400 in time=$.
I am also eating a greater variety of dishes as cooking from scratch without the TM is quite an ordeal and I only made 5-6 favourites over and over! Now I whip up all sorts!
Take your hubby to a demo if you haven't already...

Hi Elsie, I use mine ALL the time – in fact the longer I have it the MORE I use it... For the first 6 months getting to know the machine I used it 1- 2x a day now probably 3-4x – I am making things I would never have dreamed of attempting before! First time - Green smoothies – every 2 days... Second time - Breakfast every day (I looove porridge in TM and also make almond milk and date/fig spread to go on it) so some mornings I have used it 4x before 8 am! Third time - Lunch – yesterday was spinach pie (short crust pastry in TM, spinach /brown rice steamed in TM, onions/herbs sautéed in TM, mixed up with feta in TM) with homemade tomato sauce- made in TM. Also often leftover dinner (small family means often there are leftovers!) Fourth time - Dinner - 6 nights out of 7 (Not a big fan of eating out as I love healthy food and I am so disappointed when I have paid for a meal I know I could have made for a fraction of the cost and more importantly (to me) that probably would have tasted better!) - and the 7th night is usually left over’s from another day... Fifth time - maybe some bread to go with a soup I made or naan to go with curry, or maybe time to replenish the stock concentrate, maybe guests for afternoon tea - dip/ cake/biscuits all in TM.
Do let us know how the demo went!

Re the tea towel dry method - we used to show that at demos as a bit of a laugh, but now have been told not to; if done with a nice new tea towel it is fine, but if someone tried it with a bit of an older tea towel with threads hanging off the threads could get twisted up in the blades.... so no more self dry!
As for the seal retaining smells - I made a few curries and could not get the smell off – so I bought a "curry seal" especially for use for those smelly dishes. But sitting unused for a few weeks in the drawer it now has absolutely no odour... it must just have been that first few days after making the curry...

Natmum - I would also suggest the miso soup-just make sure you get the live fresh miso from the fridge in the health food store. Also Green smoothies! My favourite treatment for EVERYTHING! make them really yummy lots of fruit. The enzymes in the greens and the finely blended smoothie from the TMX means absorbtion is instant - more like having a blood transfusion than a drink! No milk - as this only slows the absorbtion. some of my faves are -
Tuscan Delight 2 bunches Tuscan Cabbage – remove stems Small bunch Parsley 3 Pears – peel and core 1 Banana Handful Blueberries
Basil Berry Smoothie I bunch English Spinach Small Handful Basil Small handful Mint 1 Punnet Strawberries 1 Banana 1 Pear– peel and core 1 Kiwi Fruit - peel
Purple Zest 1 bunch Bok Choy - remove stems Small handful Rocket 2 pink lady Apples ½ Banana 1 cup frozen mixed berries
Mango Heaven 1 bunch Sliver beet – remove stems Small bunch Parsley 2 Mangos 1 Punnet Strawberries 1 Banana

Yes - and I believe this fresh milled gluten free flours are the reason the TM gluten free bread is so much better than your usual gluten free bread – most people cannot believe it when they taste it. Besun especially goes rancid within days, even hours, after being milled; who knows how fresh the flour is in store bought gluten free products – I’ll wager not milled seconds before though!

No need to roast them - but yes ear muff are essential (actually I put it on 10 and run out of the room - usually followed by a freaked out cat, but after 30 seconds it is much quieter)...

I make besun - chickpea flour - when i make the gluten free bread - i just mill dried chickpeas in TM - it blitzes those little rocks into flour! That is the only way i have known to do it..

Your lucky mum Chelsea! I don't think my mum would have bought one except that she lived with me for a few months and realised that life is so much easier with it... Even if you are only cooking for 1 or 2 - you still have to eat every day...
We are blessed by our mums aren't we? Whether they are here or not - such a big influence on our lives... Mine sometimes drives me spare (esp. when we lived together!) but she is like my best friend... my heart goes out to my friends who have lost theirs – I have 2 who both lost their mum’s to cancer when they were only in their 40’s (the mums)– so they have had to do all of it – kids etc without that beautiful influence over their shoulders... I know they look wistfully at my mother and me sometimes, I wish I could share her! All I can do is be a loving and appreciative daughter... I try! I am giving her a massage tomorrow and taking her to see Harry Potter gold class next week (she is a big time HP fan!)...
Blessings to all your mums – especially those that are not here xxx

Hi colT - welcome! The Thermomix is ideal for health issues - cooking from scratch is soo easy - you know exactly what is going into your food - no more additives! As far as putting weight on I wouldn't recommend binging on all the high sugar deserts - never conducive to health even if you do put on a few kilos, but just simple wholesome cooking - which the EDC is full of. I would also recommend drinking lots of green smoothies - these are great for weight loss AND weight gain as they feed your body with the most nutritiously dense food on the planet. Being able to make the perfect green smoothie was why I bought my TM in the first place! I have a video of me making one here - http://embracebetterhealth.com.au/greensmoothie.htmnot in TM, but you get the idea – only thing I would add when doing it in TM is to add ½ tray ice cubes with your greens at beginning to make a fully emulsified drink. Good luck and let us know how you go! Kylie

The Thermomat is made from silicone, but I believe it does have fibreglass in it also and should not be used if there are cuts or holes in it - one tip is to never store it folded - only ever roll it - I don't know why they don't mention that on the packaging...
Use it when you don’t want to have to flour up the bench top, to wrap your dough/pastry in to prove, knead and shape, can also be used in the oven but will tend to discolour over time if you do.
