Tips and Tricks / Re: Composting« on: March 07, 2014, 12:07:41 pm »
Bigger scraps to chooks and I thermomix sad looking vegies for my worms as they don't have any teeth and what's left over goes to compost- nothing goes to waste

"Which way soever they be dressed and eaten, they stir and cause a filthy loathsome stinking wind within the body, thereby causing the belly to be pained and tormented, and are a meat more fit for swine than men", They are not called fartichokes for nothing!!!

Finding lots of awesome curly Zucchinis not sure what they are actually called but sowed from Diggers seeds last year and seed saved for this year. Cherry Tomatoes doing really well, but our corn got decimated by the cockatoos. figs are almost ready to harvested so fig jam coming up. Apples just about ready to be harvested. Jerusalem Artichokes (fartichokes) are plentiful, just not quite sure what to do with them- any suggestions.......as the 16th century gardener put it "Which way soever they be dressed and eaten, they stir and cause a filthy loathsome stinking wind within the body, thereby causing the belly to be pained and tormented, and are a meat more fit for swine than men"

I know I read it last night - but I have done it before and not had any problems but this morning - I was crying coughing sneezing it was awful - may be it was different chillies - last time I used my own and dried them. Still it's worth it.
Will bottle it up label it and sell it the school fair 6

I finished off by making some really cute lables to stick onto the jars using Photo Impact. They look great and the bonus is I can use them for when I want to do a gift hamper. I have just finished a batch of the Spicy herb salt from the Indian cook book and I think next time I will wear mask and goggles I nearly choked. 7

Chit Chat / Re: Chooks :)« on: January 25, 2012, 10:52:48 am »
We have 11 chooks plus we are currently chook sitting for friends who are away. we were given an old chook shed which we patched up and we have fenced off the end of our yard and they have done an amazing job clearing up the area. We did let them free range thrpugh the whole yard but they always went straight for the vegie patch. We did have a rooster for a while but he was so noisy and when we were away camping it was too hard for my neighbour to be putting him in a box at night so we gave him back. Last year we had a broody hen so we bought fertile eggs and 9 of them hatched 6 of them were roosters , Fortunately we had a friend who lives in the country so she took them and distributed them amongst her neighbours / Our boys love the chooks and they are always happy to come for a cuddle. and I must admit I love watching them run they are so funny, I will occasionally throw an apple core from the decking just to watch them sprint through the bushes. We let them live on after they have stopped laying but have put some down when they look like walking etc is hard
good luck with your chook adventures we love ours 13

My boys love the vitality truffles I just leave out the nuts when they are for lunch. the vegetarian cookbook has some great recipes like cheese straws and the Guenter's crisp crackers. I also make cheesy vegiemite scrolls which they love.

Mine is on mostly unless I want to reduce the liquid then I generally stick the basket on to prevent splatter. One word of advice tho' don't store it in the thermomix- my DH thought would be the best place for it, sadly i didn't check before I start chucking things in- Crunch!!! I was not happy

Introduce Yourself / Hello from Happy Valley« on: July 09, 2011, 06:15:56 am »
Hi
my family and i have had our wonderful thermomix for a while and we all love it. I recently returned to work fulltime and was a bit stressed at the thought of having to compromise on food and cooking. Attended a TM demo and was hooked. My husband initially a bit of a sceptic now loves it and my two boys 13 and 11 are now seasoned experts on juices, soothies biscuits and cakes Siobhan
