I halved the recipe as there are only the two of us and sliced my rump steak fairly thin. Reduced the overall cooking time and I think because of this, the juice stayed in the steak and we had just the right amount of sauce. A delicious meal and we enjoyed it served over the cabbage for a GF meal!
Thanks Jo!

Yes Cookie1, We are going to the Bungle Bungles - sorry I forgot to mention it - there's just so much to see. We are struggling with the airfare to see the Horizontal Falls but I guess, it will be a once in a lifetime experience so we will most likely do it. Apparently the cruise on Lake Argyle is a must-do too! So much to see and do...... Will stay in touch and thanks for the suggestion about a catchup in Perth. Sounds like fun!! Will see how we are situated. Apparently there's a good park to stay at - Karinyup (so we've been told anyway!) I've roasted my pumpkin and carrots in the oven, ready to make the soup.

Hi Cookie1,
This is our first adventure into the real outback. (We just did the Darling River Run which was dirt/bull dust and black soil but not what I call the outback!)
We are hoping to travel the Plenty Highway (I think it's dirt and sand, no black top) from Boulia to Alice Springs. Will check with the locals in Boulia and try to tag along with others travelling the same route. Otherwise, we will head up to Mt Isa and go west for there and decide if we go down to Alice Springs etc when we get to Tenant Creek.
We are trying not to travel the same road more than once. Then, after Kununurra, we want to travel the Gibb River Road and see as much as we can in the Kimberleys. Then, we'll probably hug the coast towards Perth and then spend some weeks in the s/w corner of WA.
Have no idea how long we'll be away - as I said, it's going to be an adventure for us.

Many thanks djinni373 and cookie1 for your extra info. I kindof expected there to be no mobile reception at Kings Canyon - like a lot of places I imagine. We have decided not to bother with a sat phone and just travel with a PLB in case of emergency. Would anyone like to comment on that choice?
On our recent 3 months in Tassie, I was surprised to find how good the mobile reception was, particularly on the west coast.
Now to get cracking with making pumpkin soup to freeze and croyvac our chicken and fish pieces for the trip through the outback.
Thanks again.

Thank you all for your helpful advice and good wishes. We are heading for Alice Springs and then to Darwin for our big lap. Might run into you AB. Thanks Cookie for your tips - going to Kings Canyon too.

Well, I finally have my Thermomix Bag and we are heading off around Oz next week with the TM safely stowed under the bed.
On our last trip, I stowed the TM in a cupboard on the mat my DH made out of a pool kickboard. Unfortunately, I didn't take the Varoma because of nowhere to stow it safely.
I have been cooking a lot in the TM and Varoma while I've been home for the last six weeks and am convinced that I will get lots of use from it - provided our 2kva generator can provide enough power.
Can anyone tell me if they have used their TM when free-camping and using the generator?
Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks Augusta for your response.
We are currently on the Liver Cleansing Diet so will need the TM in the van for our vegie/fruit juice each morning.
DH has just turned over the TM and reckons he can make a pad for it to sit in with cutouts for the three feet out of a foam kickboard. I just checked the official TM website and you can't buy the bag anyway. I think it's a bonus sometimes if you host a demo - is that correct?
Do those of you who travel with your TM take the Varoma also? I'm thinking really hard about this because of all the bits - not that they weigh much.
Thanks in anticipation.

I want to know how I should carry my TM in the caravan. Did you sit yours on its feet or on its side? I don't want to do any damage on my precious TM.
Thanks.

I have made this cake up twice in a week. Because I didn't think to check with this forum, with the first cake, I too had the problem of the cake not mixing properly. What I did today for my second cake was to prepare my carrot, nuts, pineapple, coconut and set all aside in a large mixing bowl. Then I followed the recipe to mix the oil, eggs, sugar and vanilla in the TM. Then I added the Flour, soda, baking powder, spices and salt in the TM and combined as per recipe. I poured the wet mix from the TM in on top of the ingredients in the large mixing bowl and combined using a wooden spoon and spatula. I divided the mixture between two, 8" square tins lined with baking paper and cooked these for 30minutes. Fantastic result this time - I won't be buying Sara Lee carrot cake ever again!!

Thanks cookie1. DH tells me that we've got the same generator so we should be good to go also. Thanks for the information.

Thanks everyone for the welcome messages. I have ordered the Indian cookbook. Has anyone got the Changing Habits Changing Lives book? It sounds interesting. I'm definitely interested in healthy and exciting food. I cooked the Thai Red Curry out of the EDC book tonight and it was a huge success!! So much easier than the conventional method.
Thanks in anticipation....

Hi - I'm another newbie. Have had my TM31 for just over a week now. There are just my hubby and I at home these days. Main reasons for purchase are that I cook a lot of stir fries and curries and want to eliminate the "bottled" premixes and all the additives from our diet.
Also am hoping that the TM will come with us in our caravan when it arrives in about 6 weeks. Can anyone tell me how power hungry the TM is - we'll be going off road and using battery/generator at times. My consultant advised to store the TM on its side when travelling so as not to cause any damage to the scales.
I adapted my first "normal" stir fry recipe by following the method from a similar recipe in the TM Everyday recipe book. Recipe turned our really well. I also loved the bolognese sauce that I made from the recipe book - fabulous result!!
I think I'll have to buy the Indian recipe book. Looking fwd to making bread too and using the Thermomat.
