Well, I finally have my Thermomix Bag and we are heading off around Oz next week with the TM safely stowed under the bed.

On our last trip, I stowed the TM in a cupboard on the mat my DH made out of a pool kickboard. Unfortunately, I didn't take the Varoma because of nowhere to stow it safely.

 I have been cooking a lot in the TM and Varoma while I've been home for the last six weeks and am convinced that I will get lots of use from it - provided our 2kva generator can provide enough power.

Can anyone tell me if they have used their TM when free-camping and using the generator?

 Hi ambro , Obbie is our generator expert and she advised that a 2Kva  generator was the way to go so you should be fine  I think she mentioned pure sinewave too, if the generator is reasonable new it will be fine , we are heading off up the top and across the middle in a couple if weeks but I have to leave my Thermie at home , no room and we only take a 1kva  generator  for emergencies when there is no sun for the solar panels.  Good luck and have a great holiday.

I've used my thermomix with a 2 kva generator Ambro0. I hope you have a wonderful trip. We've been around a couple of times now and also some trips to separate parts of the country.
AB I hope you have a wonderful trip too. If you are at Alice Springs both the east McDonalds and the west McDonalds are wonderful. So is Chamber's Pillar and Rainbow Valley.

Why not plug your website Gayle. I love it, it has been very kind to me too.  . My only disappointment in not going to Monkey Mia was that I couldn't post lots of lovely photos for you. 

Ambro0 be aware there is no mobile coverage at King's Canyon and the phone boxes are often out of order. The walk across the top of King's Canyon is WOW, but if you aren't up to that the walk along the canyon floor is beautiful too. You may be lucky enough to hear dingoes howling there, although I didn't.  The only place I have heard them is at The Dig Tree about 70 km from Innamincka.

Many thanks djinni373 and cookie1 for your extra info. I kindof expected there to be no mobile reception at Kings Canyon - like a lot of places I imagine. We have decided not to bother with a sat phone and just travel with a PLB in case of emergency. Would anyone like to comment on that choice?

On our recent 3 months in Tassie, I was surprised to find how good the mobile reception was, particularly on the west coast.

Now to get cracking with making pumpkin soup to freeze and croyvac our chicken and fish pieces for the trip through the outback.

Ambro0 you will be amazed where your mobile will work. Especially if you are coming down the west coast where there are lots of mines.
A PLB is a good idea. We took one when we did the Birdsville Track last year. Otherwise we haven't worried too much. Are you really going into remote areas? How remote?
Your trip sounds lovely. We have done most of our travelling in 2-4 month steps. Hopefully you will be able to drop in occasionally and tell us how things are going.

Cookie, we had a dingo come and sit at the edge of our camp site at Kings Canyon.  He just wandered in and sat himself down as if he owned the place.  He didn't even move when DH went and talked to him.

Hi Cookie1,

This is our first adventure into the real outback. (We just did the Darling River Run which was dirt/bull dust and black soil but not what I call the outback!)

We are hoping to travel the Plenty Highway (I think it's dirt and sand, no black top) from Boulia to Alice Springs. Will check with the locals in Boulia and try to tag along with others travelling the same route. Otherwise, we will head up to Mt Isa and go west for there and decide if we go down to Alice Springs etc when we get to Tenant Creek.

We are trying not to travel the same road more than once. Then, after Kununurra, we want to travel the Gibb River Road and see as much as we can in the Kimberleys. Then, we'll probably hug the coast towards Perth and then spend some weeks in the s/w corner of WA.

Have no idea how long we'll be away - as I said, it's going to be an adventure for us.
