After saying for the last couple of years..."next year I'll do Dry July" I have finally signed up...... now comes the hard part of telling others that I'm doing it, and sticking to it. Although I wouldn't consider myself a huge drinker, weekends are very rarely alcohol free, and quite a few more than the 2 standard drinks you are supposed to limit yourself to. My other half is a Tradie, so drinking alcohol is part of our normal "almost everyday" life. Every six weeks he is on call for a week at a time, so we have been doing 7 days straight (including the weekend) with no alcohol for those weeks, but you would think that some one had cut off his oxygen supply for most of those days. I think i mentioned doing it a while back and I don't expect him to join me at all, so maybe that will make it harder, but I am determined to see the month through......and hopefully raise money for adult cancer care at the same time. I'm thinking of all the things I could get done around the house because I will have all that extra time, and with both hands free, no need to juggle the beer or wine glass while trying to hang the washing. My sleep which will hopefully be much more restful, no toxic hangover or "slow" mornings. So who is joining me on this challenge (or maybe not so much of a challenge for some)? Lets share our achievements and challenges together And if anyone feels like giving me that little bit more incentive to stay with this, donations can be made at http://au.dryjuly.com/profile/vanessahenley

Thanks for that Judy.
Anyone else out there want to plug their favorite consultant?

As the title says can anyone recommend a Consultant who would be willing to come out to the northern reaches of Adelaide (approx 40km north of the city).
I'd prefer to consider personal recommendations of consultants which have made a good impression on people, rather than just ring Thermomix and be "allocated" a consultant.

Well last night, we decided to have salad with tea.
DP who is not at all convinced that the TM is worthwhile, mentioned about trying the TM to make some coleslaw. Well in my excitedness that he was willing to give the TM a chance, I forgot the EDC had a step by step recipe for coleslaw. I used the the Turbo button......result was from too chunky on the first check to resembling KFC colesaw on the second, but the taste was not the best for coleslaw, i think there was a little bit too much pureed veggies to, so in went a bit more hand cut cabbage and hand cut apple to try to "chunk it up" a bit.
LESSON TO BE LEARNT: Only use the Turbo button if you want four or pureed, Chopped = 4
What other mistakes have people made and what is the lessons you took from it??

Hi everyone, I made this up a week or so ago, and used it to clean the shower, while it did work I wasn't "amazed" with it.
Then last night I used it to clean the floor and the cupboards in front of the stove, and decided to give the grout a scrub.....well I really shouldn't have don't that, because now I realise how dirty the rest is!!!
DP took it the spray bottle and cleaned the rest of the kitchen cupboards, then did the light switches, while I sat and scrubbed the grotty grout, then he commented that I would have to make some more of that because it works better than Sugar Soap.
So thank you for this

I would contact the consultant and tell her what you would like to cook at your delivery demo. Custards, sorbets etc are dead easy and you would be better off making something a little more substantial if you are able. One of the first things people make is the vegetable stock concentrate so that you have it on hand immediately but once again, it is so simple you may wish to disregard this one too. I'd tell her you want to make a meal, bread/rolls or a cake/dessert - or all three if possible. Have a browse of the forum and pick out some recipes that you are able to request.
It was actually the consultant who recommended we think of a couple of things to cook while she was there

Welcome Vanessa. You are going to love your machine. Here is the link to Isi's rolls. Like Gert I often make this as a loaf too. This is the link to the No Fuss rolls.
Looking at the member list the other 'Vanessas' haven't posted and have been members for some time.
Cookie1, thanks for those links I will check them out, and yes I did notice the other "Vanessa's" look like they signed up quite a while ago but have not been active

BTW, I think there is someone with a very similar name already on this forum??
Oops, a quick scan of the member list tells me you are correct, maybe I should put my thinking cap on and think of something different.....that is if you can change your user name??

Hi everyone, I am waiting to be a Thermomix owner, (should be this week hopefully, money has gone from my account, now just to wait for the machine to arrive).
We are a family of 2 (me and DP) we both work full time and live on 2 acres on the outskirts of town, and avoid artificial flavours, flavour enhancers, colours and preservatives, and are currently experimenting with low gluten foods. I'm hoping that the TMX will open up new possibilities to food, whether that is cooking more of the foods which I can make but cant be bothered (breads, jams, sauces etc) or being able to make different foods which we have given up as part of avoiding "nasty additives", things like pizzas (make our own base, and base sauce), Tacos, yiros's (and probably many more)
What should I expect from my "delivery"?
I have been trying to think of some simple, quick things to "cook" when my machine arrives while the consultant is there to help me out, I have been thinking about the foods we currently eat and how we could do this in the TMX.
So far I have thought about rice cooked by the absorption method (is this possible in the TMX?), butter, GF meat patties (carrot, onion and garlic grated, mixed with leftover rice, mince and egg) I would like to find a good bread recipe to give that a go as well.
