OMG,  that is a long time ago.  Think I was going through my 'Ethnic' stage.  Kaftans,  land rover, camping on the beach.  Can't remember what we ate.  Would have to be cheap.  DH at Uni, me working in school as 'temporary female.'Think I made a lot of Pavlovas.  Would buy a whole lamb from the wholesale meat market.  (. Would bribe the butchers with a chocolate cake,  to split it down the middle).  Mum would take 1/2 and the other half would last us months.  Went to a few parties but just cheap wine and dry biscuits.
I would love to come to this party, a new experience, what fun. ;D

And a side of lamb was about 20 cents a kilo.

I'd love to have you all but it is a 60th birthday celebration for a dear friend of ours and he absolutely loves the Avengers ( I think he considers himself very much like Steed and he is also English). I thought it would be a great idea to have a theme night. In fact, we often do differnet themes/ fancy dress nights- we had a venetian masquerade night last year. We have done previous James Bond nights- I did prawn cocktails, Beef Wellington and crepes Suzette. On Spanish night I made gazpacho, paella and crema catalana. French night was lobster bisque, coq au vin and a French cheese board, all with appropriate wines, of course. It's so much fun to be a specific character and we all get a laugh out of it. It is also a great way of forcing you to cook from various cuisines and eras except that I haven't done a 60s one up until now! The fact that everyone who comes goes to such an effort with costumes etc makes it really fun and no-one feels like a d**k!

Merlin I did a theme night (morrocan) and got great cheap props on eBay. You might also get 60's magazines or recipe books on there? I have bought vintage dresses on eBay as well - for your costume.

I agree with devils on horseback being 70's . I wasn't around for the 60's (because i wasn't born - not stoned like Gert LOL) but I definitely remember my parents having devilled eggs and devils on horseback at parties in the 70's.
