I always use chicken thigh meat rather than bone-in thighs when I use this paste JD - works fine.  I don't put it on the BBQ but just fry it in a hottish frying pan.   I add the yoghurt marinade to the pan at the end to make a sort of sauce.

Used chicken boneless thighs, added veg & cream, great curry & mikd for kids :) no bones, no oily sauce :)
